Hey there folks,

Thank you for your posts and feedback.

As this thread here has become too general and has grown a bit old, going forward, we'd like to close it off and refer you to post in our new Home Feed Update feedback thread.

Cheers!

I just posted about this as well - it’s unusable! Random full screen blocks of suggestions?! It’s so bad. I’ve also been premium since the beginning - pay for another account for my nephew too and I hate to “threaten” to leave because they don’t care about my $20/month but it’s genuinely so bad I’d try Apple Music.
How did this get pushed out?! There’s no chance it was testing on anyone. Unless we are the unlucky ones. But my god, this is so bad. Just no.

The update is just so bad, it’s truly unusable to search and find anything useful. It’s random and cumbersome and straight terrible. Fix please! How did this even get pushed out?! Crazy.

Yeah, it's really horrible, especially knowing how it can be/was. I just tried to use it again, but it's way too frustrating. Not much choice, Apple has a free month. Ugh. I always hated iTunes, but I figure, if this isn't fixed by the time that trial is over, I'll reluctantly and unfortunately cancel spotify. I'm not going to hold my breath though. This has apparently been going on for some time if you see the threads (mine just "updated" yesterday), so clearly, no one at Spotify is listening to user frustrations/comments. Really unfortunate.

Hey all I'm a UI/UX designer and I see the new Home Feed as well.

Dear Spotify, DON'T CHASE trends, SET them! You are not TikTok!
How on earth does this get reviewed and released. Are your designers out of control? At least do the "1 recommendation takes up the whole screen and no one can find anything" in a  separate explore tab.

EVERYTHING is gone!
The usability is so bad I really have no words for this. There went zero thoughts into what the user wants, user flow, usability. Who ever was in charge and even released it to A/B test this **bleep** on a LIVE system (and I don't point to the designers, there are other people in charge I know that) needs to LEAVE Spotify ASAP, they have absolutely no idea what they are doing.

If a dude in control gets a **bleep** about his trendy idea, at least implement it in a fresh, not distracting and beneficial experience for the user! Extra section, horizontal scroll and leave the rest as it was before with the mentality that made Spotify great - Discover new music and have access to it in a easy and clear way!

Hey all I'm a UI/UX designer and I get the new horrible Home Feed in the app. I am very concerned if this spreads out, Spotify becomes useless. Also the way they release this new stuff should never happen again!

What’s going on with the new layout and how do I get back my old one? A tip for developers people want things streamlined and well organised. I don’t want to have to look at one thing at the time, and I don’t want to see snapshot videos or whatever they are on the “first page”. By all means have them but let me decide if they are of interest first. I just want to easily find my playlist, music that are recommended, my podcasts. Just small picture and the name pls!

My Question or Issue

Normally I can put up with these changes to the UI, but this one has basically broken the app. Why did they decided to remove a list of useful shortcuts and playlist and replace it with a load of pointless cards? The front page is now practically useless aside from the recently played section at the very top. Who is this for??

This new interface is horrible.
Not everything has to be Tiktok.

I requested customer service to opt-out of beta testing this feature, but it's not possible.

I'm already a paying customer with family plan, i don't owe anything else to Spotify and i'm unwilling to do their beta without my agreement.

If i have to endure this beta feature for too long, or if it become implemented, i will certainly switch to Apple Music. You**bleep** quality music and no spacial audio, i've been staying with spotify out of habit, you are really ruining my last reason to keep paying for your service.

Spotify team: please opt me out of this feature ASAP

Hi @Designina

This is an ongoing experiment by Spotify. There is currently no way to opt out or return back to the previous layout.

Please read and leave your thoughts in this thread.

Hey @ko_62 and @MarshallD7

Most Community users have taken to this post to discuss recent UI changes. Your feedback is more likely to be noticed by the Spotify team if added there.

Hi- thanks for the insight. But I think the post you linked is not quite related to the same issue.

there is a thread started on 9/26/22 about the Home Screen and that is the same complaint I have, but I thought it was be good to signify that Spotify has only expanded that change, not fixed it.

My Question or Issue

Had what appears to be a UI update today and the home page now only displays one playlist at a time and can't even fit that on the screen fully as the now playing bar covers it (see screenshot). Scrolling to see what's under the now playing bar just jumps to the next playlist... Is there anyway to get back to the old UI and get rid of this terrible design? I much preferred being able to see multiple playlists/recently played/anything more than just one single playlist on the screen at a time.

Just started having the same issue on both Android and iPadOS yesterday. I thought the app was stuck in car mode due to how comically large and inefficient the design is, but I believe this is unfortunately intended behavior 💀

I absolutely agree with this. I find myself hating the Spotify app for iPhone on a daily basis since I got the update about a week ago. Nobody around me has it yet... And I find it atrocious and very much unusable. Unable to find my music or new music to discover... It just makes absolutely no sense, I can't cope with the idea of someone thinking this is actually an improvement... I want the other version back. Well I need it, actually, or I will stop paying for the Premium version. What a bummer.

Honestly, I am shocked with the quality of UI changes Spotify has been pushing out these past months. Absolutely shocked. And disappointed that I can’t even opt out. All you can do with Spotify is pray to the gods that you don’t get UI changes you don’t want that they force on you.

At this point I am convinced they are competing with themselves on who can come up with the worst UI changes. Please for once, look at Apple Music UI and take notes! And give us the choice to revert back to the normal UI.

As long as we’re talking testing, I’ve still got the terrible new now playing UI with the title at the top of the screen. I have contacted support to opt out of all changes but they couldn’t help and nothing happened. Is there anything I can do to revert or am I forced to switch to Apple Music if I want competent UI design?

Yep. Contacted them to opt out of testing but they are absolutely useless.

The easiest solve I found is using Amazon Music until this goes away. For all purposes it’s identical to the properly working Spotify app so now it’s just a race whether Spotify ends this beta test before Amazon’s algorithm picks up on my preferences enough to supplant it. But then if I’m being beta-tested because Spotify really takes me so for granted, I’m affirmatively not coming back.

As I am sure quite a few people have experienced, Spotify has been forcing awful beta UI changes on their paying customers with no option to revert to default UI. Changes include the awful TikTok-like home screen and now playing UI (which I still am suffering from). Contacting Spotify support does absolutely nothing and I am tired of incompetent UI design being FORCED on me. I don’t want to test anything. Take that stuff to TestFlight or put a toggle in the app.

I have been absolutely disappointed and other competitors like Deezer or Apple Music are becoming more and more attractive by the day. Spotify doesn’t give two hoots about user choice, it’s become crystal clear now. They are lazy and forcing incompetent beta changes on us is how they want to get feedback. If no one complains they push it out. This is not how it should work at all. I have not seen another company that uses its production environment as its testing environment. Discord has Canary and Firefox has Nightly. Are the guys at Spotify having a laugh?

I, as a customer, thought I would put this out there and share my perspective. This probably won’t get to the right people but there’s no harm in trying right? I want to revert to the default now playing UI. I don’t want a new home screen. I don’t want to test crappy changes. I am fed up and want to be just a user again. Not a lab rat. A user.
