My Question or Issue

i’ve had my spotify premium for several months now, probably just before summer of 2018, and my layout has always been square-like; there was a “+” and check button to add songs to your library; the shuffle and repeat buttons were both next to the play button; the queue button was at the top; the three dots were located at the bottom-ish side; etc.. now that i’ve updated my spotify recently, the buttons have changed significantly to a heart?? and i remember having them for a short time before i switched to spotify premium but the repeat, queue, and “...” buttons have been moved and it makes it a lot harder to use the app. after looking at a few other posts, i saw that this happened for others, too. i wrote this issue to let the spotify team know that i dislike this change a lot and i hope that you guys will put that into consideration for your next update.

i’ll attach a picture of what i mean when i’m talking about button placement.

i just think that spotify shouldn’t be changing like this; and the fact that i’m paying for premium and putting money into this, it should mean that the app is easy to use and should be pleasing to the eye—just like how it was before the “heart button” update.

the picture with the king princess song is the spotify i know and love, whereas the picture of the duckwrth song demonstrates the buttons that i dislike.

Hey @mailynguyen1, welcome to the Community.
Hope you’re doing great!

At Spotify, possible improvements and new features are often being tested. This means you might see something on the app your friend doesn't, or get a brand new feature for only a temporary period.

Things tested could include the next generation of security protection, or new ways to listen. It's also a way for Spotify to introduce new features, and fine-tune the app to be compatible with specific devices.

Currently to go to the queue or use repeat/shuffle buttons you need to tap the … top right corner.

I’d recommend supporting this idea if you don’t like this change to Spotify.

This’ll allow users, Stars, and Moderators to vote and comment on it.

Hope it helps 🙂

i know you’re trying to help but that really didn’t address anything i was saying.

what i’m trying to say is that the use of the “...” having essentially all the control options is frustrating to use and is so time consuming rather than the use of separate options. i hope that you can send that message through to the spotify team, since i’m “testing new updates” apparently. you can “suggest” for me to like this new update and direction, but if spotify continues to be like this then i might as well change to apple music.

I also really dislike the new update on iOS.

I'm a heavy listener and regularly add new songs from other playlists to my own. The three dots to do this used to be under the art, but are now top right which means clicking high up then low down which is uncomfortable and unnecessary compared to how it was before.

I also really hate the additional step to choose a bluetooth speaker. There is an additional screen that comes up before I can select the speaker that wasn't there before which seems ridiculous. I'm regularly flipping between speakers, and it's made the whole process more laborious. Good UX should be about minimizing the number of clicks to achieve a desired outcome, not adding additional unnecessary ones.

Please fix it #Spotify

Hey, the new update I received a day ago is even worse. I understand you adapted the ios app to the notch and the unsafe bottom part of the iPhone, but the 'now playing' card is RIDICULOUS!!! It has huge empty spaces at the top and bottom part, the buttons are small and the cover image became smaller as well. The overall look makes me puke!! Seriously revert back to how it was before, please!!!

Why does Spotify not have a deticated set of beta testers to independently evaluate cahnges before foisting it on the public? The product management team at spotify are really not very smart. The long and short of it is, removing functionality in favor of consumer behavior tracking featues to boost revenue by giving you metrics for individual artist and songs by placing a like/dislike button front and center, is just bad form and is killing your product in my eyes. You are one of many, spotify. Your only product differentiation is the UI, mess that up, and you have nothing. Fix this.

Now it looks:

Hey there,

I am curious how this ended up playing out for you, if you are comfortable with sharing.

Best,
