Cancel Family Plan but keep personal Premium subscription

Solved!

Cancel Family Plan but keep personal Premium subscription

I want to remove my Family Plan subscription but keep my premium subscription. When in my account center I am able to cancel my  family plan subscription but this looks like it will cancel my premium subscription also, meaning all my offline music will be deleted.

How do I remove the family plan and keep my premium subscription? This seems like a simple request but I cant find details of how to do this any where!

You will first have to cancel your family plan. Doing so will cancel your subscription, but you will still be premium until the remaining days of your subscription are used up.

After you cancel, you can resubscribe to the regular premium to ensure that your offline music won't be deleted and that your subscription will renew when it's time.

You won't lose any playlists. Those are independent from your susbscription status.

That's what I suspected id have to do but Spotify makes it very hard to know if thats the correct proceedure and if my subscription will stay or immediately be removed. I followed your suggestion and I think I will flick off the Family Plan onto premium at the end of the billing period despite Spotify telling me my Family Plan will renew! Its at the normal, non-family rate though so I should be safe.

This is what I see now:

Thanks for your help. I think its sorted now.

Is canceling my subscription completely really the only way to remove the Family Plan option from my account?  That just seems counter-intuitive to have to start over to make an adjustment.

Are you sure there is not a better way?

Is there a someone from Spotify technical support that can help with this?

Why is canceling the family plan not a normal option?

I would enjoy this service more and especially in the future when I am able to easly turn on and off extra subs. Now I just want to cancel the extra and not turn it on again for a long time.

Same problem here..

Agreed, this is ridiculous. I can't believe I actually had to do research on how to get this accomplished. I feel it's a really sneaky and frustrating way to keep people on this plan.

Completely agree. Not the user experience I expect.

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE way to trap people into an upgraded subscription. Not cool, Spotify. Make it easy for people to downgrade from family to premium. Other services are available, you know. Smh.

Same question and complaints as everyone else on this thread

Same problem here also.

Same here. I am going to ask them to change it for me or I'm just cancelling. No sense in putting up with that.

Yep same problem - confusing and nasty! I'm now considering making the move to Apple... get it sorted Spotify this is not the way to keep business.

Making the cancellation of a family plan so difficult is either down to a deliberate attempt by Spotify to make it so. Or an unbelievable level of incompetance in UX design.

Same issue here

Hello!

I have subscribed to the family plan, to get a friend into spotify premium. My family abonnement was 9,99 for three month (special offer) and this is the third month now (payed today).

I couldn't find a way to change back from family to normal premium and so I canceled the family account and afterwards subscribed to normal premium again, hoping this will fix the issue.

Unfortunately there is no way to tell, because it still says "Dein Spotify Family Abonnement wird automatisch am 14.04.16 zu einem Preis von 9,99 € erneuert. " = "Your family abonnement will be automatically renewed on 14.04.16, for a price of 9,99 Euro." Which is impossible, because it either would cost 14.99 as a family abo then (because the special offer ending this month) or it isn't a family abo anymore.

Does this mean it will continue as a normal premium abo and is just badly worded?

I just want everything to continue for me, but only for me. My friend will buy premium or eventually family for himself and his partner then.

I would really appreciate if someone has experienced this too and can tell how it worked for her/him.

Thank you very much

Nele

Hi, and thanks but what about my existing playlists etc. Am I going to lose
these? Really is a complete nonsense to have to do it this way and
unnecessary.

And just FYI as to why I want to cancel my Family subscription it¹s
because my children are not in Ireland and can¹t be a ³Family Member² in
another country!!! No indication of this stupid limitation before signing
up. Really, really wish that I had not done so and it will be a long time
before I sign up for anything with Spotify again.

So really Spotify this is 2016!!! If Netflix can work that out so can you.

I thought I was doing something wrong, because the process of taking to steps back to Free, then 1 step forward to premium didn't make any sense. I guess I was not doing something wrong.
