Change the Main user of Spotify Premium Duo

Solved!

Change the Main user of Spotify Premium Duo

Hey,

Me and my sister share a Premium Duo Abo. She is the main-user.

We want to change our roles. I want to become the main-user (to be able to use the included listening time for audio books) and she shall be the co-user.

How can we manage that?

My idea is that my sister cancels the Premium Duo Abo. And than I get the Premium Duo Abo as the main-user and invite her as a co-user.

What would change or content would we lose from our accounts as we would both shortly only have Spotify Free?

Is this plan working? What are other better options?

 Thanks in advance

Hi @Momo3000,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community, and welcome!

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to change the plan manager once they’ve signed up for Premium Duo, so the best option in this case is the idea that you’ve described: canceling the existing Premium Duo plan and starting a new one with you as the plan manager.

Your sister can cancel the existing Premium Duo plan by following these steps, and then both of your accounts will switch to Spotify Free at the next payment date (visible on your account page). At that time, you can start a new Premium Duo plan here and then invite your sister to the plan by following these steps.

No worries, Spotify users keep their same accounts with all of their playlists, saved music, and settings no matter which plan they switch to or from (feel free to read more about this here)—so even though your accounts will revert to the free service after canceling the existing Premium Duo plan, neither of you will lose any of this content, and you can both still log in and play music with ads when your accounts are on the free service.

Note, however, that since downloading music for offline listening is a Premium feature, you won’t be able to listen to music offline when you're on the free service.

Also bear in mind that Spotify users can only switch between different Premium Duo or Premium Family plans once in 12 months.

Feel free to read more about how Premium Duo works in this FAQ article, and let me know if you have any other questions.

Have a good day!

Thank you for all the informantion!

Hi Novy,

I'm a relatively new user to spotify and I've only just become aware of this problem. I must say that your response and your 'solution' are wholly unacceptable.

My partner and I took out a Duo account, but while setting it up we were not made aware that the Plan Manager has additional benefits to the other Member. Had we known this, we would've set up the account differently.

In the circumstances, and on the basis that we were not given all the necessary information when setting up the account, could you please explain how we now swap our statuses as Plan Manager and Member so that I can access the audiobooks that my partner doesn't use.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Regards,

Jorge

With all account info shared it seems silly that spotify opts not to cap the shared account listening time. The solution of adding another $11 onto a monthly subscription is a bad solve, and to Jorge's point: there was no mention of capped audiobook hours on this plan, or limiting audiobooks to the primary account holder. Switching primary account holders should be an option within the account settings.
