Following count not updating on profile

My Question or Issue

The following count on profile is not updating when following a new artist, but it does update when following a 'normal' account.

Example:

My current following count is '5', if i follow a friend/normal profile, it goes up to '6' after refreshing the profile/closing the app and going back to the profile, but If i follow 'drake' it doesn't go up to 6 from 5 after refreshing/closing the app, it stays at 5.

Thanks reaching out in the Community. This does sound a bit odd and not a common issue we see.

Can you let us know if you've already tried to log out > restart your device > log back in? It's also a good idea to try clearing your cache to remove any old files that might be causing issues.

If that doesn't do it for you, could you let us know if you experience the same if you log in on your devices with a friend or a family member's account?

Thanks for letting us know about your experience folks. 

@ethereal2 you mentioned that clearing your cache didn't help out? Normally that should have helped, so we'd like to investigate this further. Have you tried any troubleshooting? Does this happen on other devices?  

In order to investigate we would need some help from you. Let us know what version of your Operating System you are currently running. Along with that we need to know which version of Spotify as well.

this is happening to me too and I've tried everything! what is going on?

I’ve also tried everything! The list won’t update. And my profile picture when I open the app is an “N” then switches to my picture, and my name doesn’t even start with N. And the audio quality is worse. I logged in and out twice in a row, cleared the cache, made sure updates were installed. No fix!

@missjulia, as per the other issues you mentioned, we'd suggest you perform a clean reinstall of the app on the affected device to see if you notice any difference. By doing that, the app can be up-to-date, and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this inconvenience. You can see the steps for a clean reinstall here.

You can read more about the audio quality in this article. If these issues persist after the reinstallation, we'd suggest you create a new post about them, so we can take a closer look. We'll be investigating the following count in this one.

Hello, yes this problem is still occurring when following an artist account. The following count doesn't update directly after following an artist account, Clearing cache, restarting or relogging doesn't work. You have to wait atleast 24+ hours for it to update and even then it sometimes doesn't update.

This is not the case with a user account. If you follow an user account then it updates the Followers and Following count directly which should be the case for artist account too in my opinion.

Thanks for the reply. Usually it does take at least 24 hours for this info to be updated everywhere, so that much is to be expected. If you notice any further consistent issues with this, please let us know and we'll gladly investigate further.

i recently unfollowed certain artists on spotify and my following count should have reduced, but it is still the same

same, it only reduces if I unfollow profiles, not artists

I'm experiencing the same issue... I've recently publicly shared my Spotify profile, and invited my audience to follow me. I've been receiving many messages from people confirming they followed me, but my following count is still the same, not even one more. I cleared my cache, and tried refreshing, logging out, looking it up on both my phone and computer, but nothing changes.

I've been having the Same issue with my following. I've followed artist but it stays the same and for accounts it gose up but I've tried everything to clearing the cache to uninstalling the app.

this is happening to me also! i cleared my cleche and updated the app but it won’t update the number, whenever i go into the app it shows a 1 and then changes to my profile picture.

My account shows I'm following 14 people but I'm only following 6, before it only added 4 extra but I tried to unfollow everyone to fix it and it added 4 more so now I have 8 extra following. I'm assuming it's a big, but it's annoying.
