My Question or Issue
Hi there. I want to link my google account to spotify in order to use "log in with google" feature. Is that possible? My spotify account was created via facebook about 3 years ago.
My email on spotify is the same as google account email.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Can't believe this isn't a thing in 2023. Back then, only Facebook was a possibility and I chose that at that times. I always log into everything using google except spotify. Seriously, the "your email must be the same as the one used" or whatever other **bleep** is spitted out here is stupid.
There are tons of apps out there allowing to link authentication through various system and not just one. The email address behind has nothing to do with this whatsoever. This is probably more of a legacy code reason than anything else and they would have to modify the authentication quite a bit to integrate this features properly.
My google account doesn't have a gmail email address at all on it but I'm still able to use it anywhere I want and it's linked to my hotmail account since forever.
**bleep** reasons is the least cool thing to do in customer services with half-assed answer that are just guesses.
P.S.: I'm a software developer so yeah, these things **bleep** me off.
What a shame. More than 2 years and we still don't have a feature seemingly easy to implement.
Is there still no actual solution to this despite being 3 years later? I still have a gibberish username generated by spotify and no ability to link my google account to it. I was hoping these were going to be short-lived immaturities but maybe you forgot about these fundamental aspects of your UX?
It's been a couple years - is there an ETA as to when just adding Google sign-in to an existing account without transferring anything might become possible ?
So after 3 years of "testing" social network login spotify still can't make it work...
I can "link" and "un-link" my social media accounts with other applications after registering with email only. It is usually an independent option in the profile. SSO credential linkage has been rolled out for more than a year now. Shame I can't go back after the fact and link them. It doesn't seem like it would be difficult to implement now, even WordPress plugins are available.
If we need to create a new account from scratch, are we allowed to move our history from old account to the new one? If that's an option, I can consider exercise. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense to leave all that history and just open a new one.
Considering how old Spotify is, this procedure is not smart.
Well, after reading other comments and how much time have passed I'm now considering switching back to YTM over this failure business logic. I thought Spotify was far better alternative. I guess you get to know more when you live with, applies to Spotify as well
Absolutely bizarre that I still cannot link my Spotify account originally created via Facebook login to my Google account. All other major apps allow to do this without any issues. I do not like the idea of creating a new account since that will remove all my history, is easy to screw up and is completely unnecessary! How do we, as users, prioritize and ask for this integration request?
So when will this be possible? It's been years at this point, and people seem to want it, so when will this be possible to do?
Shame for spotify move to YouTube MusicShame for Spotify moved to YouTube Music
3 years later, still no solution. This is bad customer service.
Is it still in test phase? 😡
I just added google auth to my old account. It has been enabled I guess.
Just to confirm. This feature FINALLY works. Something that takes about 15 minutes to implement took 3 years. Well done.
As of 9/22/2023 There is now a login methods button on your account page that lets you link Google, Apple, and Facebook. Not being able to do something IS NOT a solution.
I was finally to connect my Peloton account to my (revitalize) Spotify account. All this without creating a new account or creating a new email. Wasn't an easy task to accomplish, took forever to figure out. I'm just happy that things work. Because of the issue here, seemingly being resolved, I have reinstated my Spotify account.
Finally solved (for real) by Spotify's implementation: see login methods support article.
Linking a google login is now possible: https://www.spotify.com/se/account/login-methods/
Yes, it is.
