How can I remove facebook from my account and log in with an email and password?

Despite what the literal guide for this topic would say, you do not have an email in the account details and when trying to change or at least add one, it is grayed out and unable to be typed in. I created this account with Facebook and log into it using the account, so there is no email or password able to be added to it. I tried using the email used to create my Facebook account on the password reset page, but all that it tells me is that there is no account that uses the email, even though I own an account with Spotify premium and have used it for several years. Is there any way I can add an email and password without having to delete an account I have had for years because the systems in place don't work?

If there is no email address registered for your Spotify account created with Facebook (which would be visible on your Account overview, under “Profile”), you’re unable to set a password via the password reset form in order to be able to log in via your email address and password.

Instead, you’ll need to get in touch with Customer Support; they’ll take a look and do their best to help add an email address for your Spotify account. Then, you can follow the steps in this FAQ article to create a password, so that you can log in with your newly added email address and password (rather than with Facebook).

Also, once you have an email address linked to your Spotify account, you have the option to disconnect your Spotify account from Facebook. However, bear in mind that this process includes deactivating your Facebook account. If you’d like to do so, you can follow the Steps for option 1 in this FAQ article (using the email address that’s now associated with your Spotify account for the password reset step); and then edit your display name if you like.
