Year in Music 2016

victoriad22

Is the year in music different this year? Last year, it told me my top artists by season, my top albums of the year, first song I listened to all year, and a bunch of stuff.. This year it told me my total minutes, gave me my top 100 playlist and that's pretty much it 😞

Hey Community,

We understand there are a lot of questions around Wrapped – this year’s take on Year in Music. So we’ve put together the following FAQ to help clear up any confusion!

What is Wrapped?

Wrapped is this year’s answer to Year in Music. It consists of three different things:

  • A hub in Browse > Genre & Moods full of playlists that highlight the best music 2016 had to offer.
  • A personalised ‘Your Top Songs 2016’ playlist. You can find yours in the Wrapped hub. Make sure you follow it!
  • Personal listening stats delivered directly to your inbox.

Why didn’t I get a Wrapped email?

To receive an email, you needed to meet the following criteria:

  • Have opted into News & Offers email notifications.
  • Have enough listening history from January – late October for us to serve up your stats.
  • Have a valid email address registered to your Spotify account.
  • There are some other scenarios that could mean you don’t receive an email. For example, if you’ve ever marked a Spotify email as spam, or we received a bounceback when sending you an email in the past. Unfortunately, this is out of our hands.

Update: We’ve finished rolling out a new batch of Wrapped emails. If you still haven’t gotten yours, it may be due to one of the reasons listed above. You can also check Browse for the "Your Top Songs 2016" personalised playlist.

Why did you change Year in Music?

We’d hoped to reach more people with this year’s campaign and we believe we have. We also really appreciate all the feedback you’ve given us here in the Community. We’re taking it all on board for next year.

To be honest, I'm pretty gutted about this - it feels a cop-out to just be sending a crappy mail shot, I didn't even receive mine and I use spotify - a lot.

One of the best things I've seen spotify do is the personalised micro sites and this year it feels a shambles. Great response from customer support too - 'we sent an email, its ok'.

Gonna head to apple music, Where's my credit card...

i wanted to throw another dissatisfied opinion into the mix. how was anyone supposed to know they were going to send an email? i like many others opted out of promo emails. now i'm being told "we're sorry, you will never see it now, better luck next year". what a joke!

Hey Spotify, I'm sorry to say you can suck my **bleep**. I've been paying a monthly subscription since 2015 and Year On Music really matters to me. Like I've even done a bet with a friend to see who gets more minutes. 2014's was really good, 2015's was amazing and 2016's... Wrapped? What the **bleep**? You say it's the 'answer to year in music'. No it's not. If YIM took a **bleep** it would be 'Wrapped'. I can't even see the international most played! I can only see Spain's. Ugh. No stats for me? I've given you a lot of money and I'm not feeling that well with the service. Improve or RIP. Sorry.

This is the worst, i got premium 1 january for ONLY this reason. Otherwise i'd listen to my music elsewere. The fact that you have to get it by mail is idiotic, why not let us see it in the app or spotify page after logged in. Didn't have my notifications on (since i dont want the get alot of unwanted mail) until today. The least you can do is to re-send the god darn mail now that we know. If not i'll cancel my premium for sure.

This just ruined my day. I wasn't turned on for news until just now which means I'm not going to get the email most likely. Last years website was so good. Why didn't they do that again?? 😞

Lost all the interest trying to lighten up you how you made added value for yourself from a customers view, just gave up with you, you guys won (by losing us. So I don't see you really winning here).
I just cannot understand how you don't seem to have any basic instincts about good customer service with this one.. By at least admitting that there's a chance you did miscalculate the situation.
No, you are saying that the one's who already knew about your statistic opportunities here and who can actually build their own bleeping playlists because of active using of your service. Those are the one's you don't want to serve anymore here. For the sake of the one's who in that case, might not even really have any use for that stuff. I do believe that there are large masses (newer, younger and older customers) out there who don't know how to use your last years web app, or that it even did exist, AS you aren't really that good at informing your customers (as seen with this 'email notifications' fiasco).
Last year you had tons loads of attention on social media cuz of your interested and active users shared their stats for their friends, that's how it started to spread. That's how you gain some of the customers here as you can read from the feedback.
So you had them and you had their money already, why do anything more here then.. You still have tons of this feedback, it seems like you own them. (Or would you owe them? Depends of the point of view.)

Please stop editing your post every 2 minutes. I got over 15 mails because of that.

"We wanted to reach more people" How stupid do you think your users are that you would insult their intelligence like that? Explain to me how selectively sending something to a subset of users with zero notice reaches more people than making it available to ALL users from the app?

OR you made a grevious error in underestimating the popularity of the feature and/or decided you could nickel/dime people by forcing an email address out of them. I hope a few extra spam emails are worth all the bad publicity and lost accounts to your company. At least we can rest assured someone was fired over this. What a cluster**bleep**

I really hope they will do it better next year. It's just ridiculous that they can't resend it. I think my 12 premium payments per year should be sufficient for an email...

So how can we get an e-mail if we didn't get one previously. I had previously opted out of the News & Offers e-mail option. I've since opted into it again, but can I still get an e-mail or is that just not possible at this point?

I find it hard to believe you've reached more this year with this version...i didn't even know it existed (and I used spotify 5 or 6 days a week for anywhere from 30-60mins to several hours) until I googled spotify year in music to find out if it even happened this year. previous version was A LOT more interesting in my my opinion.

I never got my Year in music 😕 I checked all the spam and everything and there was never an email sent to me by spotify, SAD the 2015 edition was way better.

Bah. The new "wrapped" wasn't nearly as good as last years Year in Music. Bring it back!'

Really bummed about the format of year in review this year - I enjoyed looking at the data.  I hope you go back to the old style for 2017.  I have updated my email settings, is there a way to resend the 2016 Wrapped email?

I won't complain about the lack of Year in Music as it is adequately addressed below by everybody else.

HOWEVER, SEEMS TO ME WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE DIDN'T EVEN GET THEIR EMAIL. THE LOGICAL SOLUTION SEEMS TO BE RESEND RESEND RESEND.

The new "Year in Music" is great and all, but what about my own personal year in music? But...

I really liked the 2015 (user's) Year in Music (I even saved screenshots of the images so that I could do a comparison once 2016 came out). The stats were awesome, it could have been expanded on (one thing I would have liked to see was "you listened to X# of new artists: here they are ___").

I don't know about anyone else... but I'm not thrilled with having to go to a third party (Last.fm) to see my year in music, but at least I had it scrobbling... so if you need me, I'll be over there - looking at my music stats for 2016.

i did get an in-app notifivation about my personalised playlist! but i agrre with the majority in that i loved the year in music with my listening stats! i think it should be brought back for 2017!
