My Question or Issue
I'm unable to get spotify to ignore android notifications. When a notification happens, the music pauses for the notification sound. I've tried Do Not Disturb and turning Sound to Mute, but it keeps happening. How can I fix this issue?
Solved! Go to Solution.
This just started happening to me today. Before it would just turn what I'm listening to down then come back up. Now it pauses it and doesn't return to play.

This just started happening to my.ohone a weekend ago. For as long as I've had the app, when a notification comes in, music pauses for the sound, then plays again. Not it pauses and stays paused. Why is this happening all of a sudden? I can not find ANY fix online. Just Spotify people saying it's fixed or that's how it works. Neither is true. How do we fix this? I work with my hands all day, don't need the hassle of taking phone out every single time I get a message or email.
Yea same. It used to have a 15second rewind from notifications which was already infuriating and stupid. It's like they think people are incapable of processing the last 15seconds of audio if they get a notification. But it was ignorable as it would still at least autoplay. However as you say, now it doesn't autoplay at all. It just stops. For no apparent reason. Like every time I get a notification I need to drop everything, mute everything and throw the computer out the window just so I can read this damn notification. Like who tested this? What are yall smoking? You turned an already terrible and unintuitive feature into a worse one. It baffles me. One of the leading audio platforms in the world by the way... I'm also likewise with you in my usage of spotify is at times when my hands usually aren't free (mostly driving), so none of the notifications matter to me anyway, I can't read them! And now I have to manually start the audio again?? Absolutely baffling. It's like you're prioritising the notifications of other apps over the content of your own, and it will only result in users getting frustrated and closing your app, not artificially inflating screen time or whatever. Unless this a bug, then it probably should have already been fixed by now. It's been weeks, this is a very simple feature that I feel you are making unnecessarily complicated.
So here's my suggestions; revert it back to the rewind but make it an actual practical rewind time like 1 or 2 seconds, not frickin 15. Even 5 would be better. Notifications are generally what like 500ms or something? Maybe a second? Why the **bleep** would I need to rewind 15?
Second option; remove the perma stop of the current set up so it pauses for the notification and then immediately restarts. This is what I assume would be intended if it is indeed bugged.
Third option; add an option for it! Let me select 'no audio pause for notifications' so people can actually cater the app to how they want to use it/how much they prioritise notifications.
I know I'm salty but this is by your design. I hope you found the feedback constructive and I look forward to you implementing a better system soon.
I want Spotify podcasts to pause for my MapMyRun notificaitons on time/splits/average pace. You can lose signifcaitn content/context in that 8 - 10 seconds. Up until last week - late Feb 2024 - it always apuased - suddenly it does not. We need to be able to choose. I have Android One UI version 6.0, Android version 14 on Galaxy S21
What? this thread is from 2024… and what has happened since then? Spotify gets me steaming mad in the middle of a peacesful gentle morning because of the incessant notification stops while playing on my iPhome or iPad. We have looked into this and read posts adnauseum but there seems to be no answer forthcoming that is definitive and actually works. Spotify sucks on this account, and it seems part of a general demise into the inability to be in control of your devices, which is super sad commentary on the industry today.
Fixed this infuriating "feature" on my wife´s phone by setting Spotify in the list of Never auto-sleeping apps under Settings > Battery > Limit Background Usage.
Took me quite a while to pin down this was the culprit though, as Spotify was once automatically identified as a sleeping app and received restricted battery power. since then, no more interruptions.
I hope this helps someone else as well.
According to Copilot...

My Question or Issue
When playing music for the first time the app is loaded, a notification ping chimes if the phone is on ringer. It shouldn't be doing that, since this disrupts the music for no reason at all.
