My Question or Issue
When connecting Spotify to a speaker with built-in "Spotify Connect" and built-in "Chromecast" you can switch between these two modes". When using "Chromecast" the volumesteps are "+1" or "-1" when hitting the volume-buttons. When using "Spotify Connect" the steps vary from 2-3 each time when you hit the buttons wich are much to big and the volume tends to be too highh or too low.
Yes, I did a clean install, cleared all caches, restarted router, phone, speaker.
Hey everyone,
Thank you for the reports!
We've passed your comments to our tech folks so they can have another look into this. To aid us in the investigation, could you share the following info, if you haven't already:
In the meantime, make sure to keep the app updated so you don't miss a thing.
Take care.
Hello Dessi,
Please see my answers below:
If you need future information or if i need to do more tests please let me know.
Kind regards,
Just want to let everyone know that I just solved it for myself. Here are the steps that i've taken:
- Uninstall latest version of Spotify on my phone.
- Downloaded a much older version (8.9.98.488 - previous major) of Spotify online *(be aware of the risks!) & install it
- Cleared the storage + cache of my SmartThings app (needed for reinstalling my Q950A Soundbar)
- Factory reset my Samsung Q950A
- Reinstall soundbar via SmartThings app
- Do not enable casting, just keep the Spotify Connect integration enabled (default behavior)
- Now go into Spotify and stream music via Spotify Connect
- My volume steps are +1 again 🎉
Hopefully it stays this way after I reinstall the latest version of Spotify again. I will post an update after I tried this
I think it has something to do with the way how the soundbar gets added within the Spotify app via Spotify Connect
Ah! I reinstalled the latest version op Spotify again via the app store, issue is back.. So, good to know it is something in the Spotify app that is acting up.
I installed a bunch of different versions to figure out where the change is, and I think i've found the working and broken versions:
9.0.58.564 -> allways contains the issue
9.0.58.419 -> sometimes contains the issue, depending which version you had installed previously (I think)
9.0.56.591 -> works just fine! (for me at least)
Hopefully it helps the Spotify team to find the issue and/or help someone here to also fix it in the meantime 😁
I didn't have this problem before but got it today when I swapped Spotify Connect quality to lossless on my receiver (NAD M33).
Version 9.0.56.591works good for me too, only downside is that it doesn't support lossless in that version. Setting it to lossless is where the problem starts in the current app
.
I've got the same issue here. I deleted the newest version of Spotify and reinstalled 9.0.56.591. This works perfectly.
I hope they'll solve this soon and I can get back to an up-to-date version of the app.
Where can i find the 9.0.56.591 version?
Edit: found it, and works normally again.
However i prefer Spotify to fix this issue....
Edit: I did the update to latest version (9.0.56.591 to 9.1.14.864) and everthing is still working fine!!
Edit: After closing and using again same problem again.... to bad....
We have te same issue. Q930B soundbar with latest Spotify-app. Can you fix thuis issue. Soundlevel goes UP per 4.
Hi there, @daanjongbloets

In the meantime, make sure to keep the app updated so you don't miss a thing.
Keep us posted!
Same problem here, volume goes in Steps of 5:
Strange that your advice is to keep the app updated while user @eduandebruine solved the problem with downgrading the app
For most of the cases in this thread, it's a design bug, not implementation bug so downgrading the app or changing the quality can't and won't help. Spotify needs to properly handle devices with broader volume range.
Samsung soundbar with software HW-Q930BWWB1010.0. Spotify Android app 9.1.20.1452. I use Spotify on the soundbar with WiFi. Changing the soundsettings does not fix the problem.
Hi, is this still jot resolved? I have the same issue on different devices. I would love to just use my phones volume buttons but the jumps are much to big, especially on low volumes. I dont get why there need to be bigger jumps when controlling an external speaker in the first place. Its no different than controlling headphones, its no problem to press the button multiple times or just keep it pressed but this way I always have to use an external remote or a third party app to adjust the volume.
Its been more than 3 years, thsi should really be a wuick and easy fix. Unless this is somehow considered a feature but I honestly cant see how it should be.
Same issue when using Spotify Connect on WiiM Amp Ultra. Works perfectly fine with Tidal and other apps, but Spotify can't figure it out for years. It's either too quiet or hearing damage with Spotify. Good thing you just raised the prices significantly, I will be terminating my Family plan, thanks.
I see a big improvement on iOS apps - the volume got detached from the volume buttons and the slider has better resolution, now I can change it by 1.
Electron app has still the old UX.
I'm also affected. With my Samsung Q990F soundbar the volume increments at steps of 4 for each push of the volume rocker on my Pixel 10 phone.
Expected behaviour is an increment of 1.
Downgrading to Spotify 9.0.56.591 fixes it - now increments are at 1 again (kudos to whoever discovered this workaround).
I curse your work. You couldn't even do one thing right. They say they fixed it in 5 dB increments. Now this sound level is in 4 dB increments.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
