Chromecast volume control while Spotify is running in background - GONE!!

For a copule of days now I haven't been able to control the volume of Spotify on Chromecast while the app is in the background. It only works while the app is in the foreground. This has always worked until now. I'm still able to use the volume control in all other Chromecast apps that I use, while they are in the background. 

But when Spotify is running in the backgorund there is no Chromecast volume control avaliable anymore. 

This is really annoying since changing the volume has been possible til no, even when the screen has been locked.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I have the same problem.  It is really annoying!  I am using 8 chromecast audios as part of a multizone/room system with a sentralized amp.  Before I could just control the volume (via the hardware buttons) while the phone was "locked".  Now I have to unlock and open Spotify to control the volume.. Argh..  However I am uncertain if this is a Spotify issue or an Android issue...

Well since I haven't got any Android updates in a long time and the feature
works with older Spotify versions I'd say it's a Spotify problem. The
feature is still available in other Chromecast apps.

As both grimson and philler3000 pointed out.  This rules it out being an Android issue as such. I've just tested with the latest beta version ( 7.7.0.1179 beta - 22.feb) and the issue persists there.  I guess I have to rollback to a previous version.  Very annoying!

I have sent Spotify an email 3 weeks ago about the issue. And yet another the other day, and the last reply I got from them they said that they are looking into this.
Hopefully that's true.

Oh and btw, 7.8.0.589 beta still has the issue with Chromecast.

so spotify whats up, did you investigate the situation? is there a problem with chromecast and volume outside of the app? i have a 1+ 3t android 7 and i do have the problem...

Just downloaded the beta 8.0 and it works it that version so Spotify has a fix coming up. 😄

I am on version  8.4.0.539 and I have had all kinds of chromecast volume control options (like other posters mentioned) the past few months.  Once I left the app the chromecast volume controls were gone.  My phone is set to auto update apps, and my spotify was totally up to date.  Today I simply uninstalled the app, reinstalled (same version) and everything was magically fixed!!

Still no fix for me.  It'll work when I first cast, but then if I close spotify for a while and open it again I can't control the volume.  I have a feeling it's treating the chromecast as another distant logged in device, not a nearby connected casting device.
