First up: I've read plenty of threads about the 3,333 offline song limit on a device, 10,000 saved/my music limit etc. While I think these numbers are arbitrary and only hurts Spotify in its ability to fight off the likes of Apple Music and the rest, that's not my issue.. however it is associated with it. That said..
On your android device, in the Spotify app.. there is a very handy feature: go to My Music -> Songs and turn the option Make Available Offline on. Viola.. any song I save on this device or through the PC desktop app will automatically download. This is nothing short of amazing since I'm 36 and can appreciate how easy this is compared to taping songs off the radio, dial up, etc etc
Once you hit the 3,333 song limit, then you face a problem. You need to remove songs entirely from your saved/My Music collection in order to download a new song. Doing this, then re-adding the stuff you just removed and you'll get the persistent max downloads error popup message.
To stop this loop, I went back to the My Music -> Songs and switched Make Available Offline to off. However this removes all 3,333 songs from your device.
Then I go through each artist, and while I've got close to 1000 artists on that list, I now notice there's a download amd remove download option. So it's a workaround, granted, but no more automatic downloading.
It would simply be nice for the Spotify app on Android to have a Download or Remove Download option in the menu when My Music -> Songs -> Make Available Offline is set to On. I've also tested this for individual artists and albums and the same thing happens.
Just a helpful suggestion to make this product work better since I love Spotify but it feels somewhat incomplete with this issue.
