Feedback Request: Android Offline Issues

Solved!

Feedback Request: Android Offline Issues

Hello everyone! Spotify here.

We are looking into customer reports about issues with offlined playlists on Android (music which is downloaded to your phone so you can play without an internet connection). Our investigation shows that some folks might have experienced some issues with this so we were hoping you could answer some questions to help us diagnose the problem.

1. Have you made a playlist available offline which you could not play without any internet connection?

2. Have you made a playlist available offline which constantly downloads when you start Spotify?

Thanks,
Team Spotify

@chrisggib Did you synch the playlist to your android?

I have an issue with the equalizer not working on offline playlists on my S4. It seems to be a common problem but it's frustrating as hell as I solely changed from iPhone to Android because I wanted a built-in equalizer in Spotify. Now I'm looking at buying a headphone amplifier instead but having to pay some 99$ to get the sound I want because of a glitch is not that great

This issue is so incredibly annoying. I download the playlist, it says the songs are downloaded, I go offline and they either say they're not downloaded or "play" with no sound. I love Spotify but I can't deal with this for much longer. I've tried everything. Deleting, uninstalling, changed where it's saved etc.

Hey @beccc Are you using an external SD card? What device and android version are you running spotify on?

Yes, I have a 64gb Samsung sd card. I tried reformatting it. I have a Sony Xperia Z1 with Jelly bean.

Seriously guys. What have you done with the app? Three months ago there was no problems whatsoever.

No there are lots.

I can no longer use spotify on my cell at all. Everything starts up fine, sometimes. When it doesnt I simply cant start the app. When it does start up however it says I have no internet connection even though I have. It then goes like a pendulum between internet connection and no internet connection. Luckily for me I have premium, and can still enjoy my offline playlists 🙂

NOT!

Because after something like 10-20 seconds of playback the app shuts off the music. Naturally I'm confused, because by this time I have already put my phone in my pocket and are really enjoying the music. When I then pick it up to see what is wrong, everything either seems fine and I can just press play and the music will continue playing for another 10-20 seconds, OR the app is totally **bleep**ed up and showing nothing but a black screen where my synced offline playlist used to be.

I bet you understand how annoying this is. But hold on, there's even more **bleep**hawks diving right at me!

I can not change the song. Or rather I can change ti by swiping to the next as usual, but when I do so nothing is playing. So I try and restarting the app. I kill the process from android task manager and start it up again. Now the song I had on before (that's before I changed the song) is still active, and when I play it it still kills itself about 10-20 seconds into the playback.

This has now been going on for more than two months.

Withdrawing my premium membership atm.

*EDIT* See attached picture for a sense of the story of my spotify™life 😄

After updating to the latest version, clearing my cache/user data, and removing my sd card so that spotify only uses the internal memory, things seem to be working. Granted, I haven't used it extensively, but so far so good. The problem is that I have no room on the internal storage, so I can't download any of my playlists for offline use, but I did have enough room for my ~700 local songs that aren't on spotify's library, so at least when I have access to a good data connection, I have access to all my playlists.

Bottom line is that it seems to be a problem with using the sd card for spotify's data. Not sure if it's a faulty card or if it's spotify's faulty ability to handle the card.

Brent212 what phone you are using, and what version of android? maybe I will be able to help you 🙂  don't buy a new card 🙂

cheers!

Samsung Galaxy S2 (Sprint version), android version 2.3.6.

I have been playing around with spotify abit,
And I was so furious about this annoying problem that I started to go through this problem bit by bit!

The solution thats working for me was this.

I completly starting to pick out everything that my Samsung S4 Galaxy could do,

Battery, simCard and Sd Card (SanDisk Ultra 64GB). I connected my battery to the phone and connected the phone through USB to my PC (Win 8.1).

I started my phone, and once i got in the phone and started up Spotify and got an Error message that spotify could not find any Sd card.

So, i uninstalled the Spotify App and started to download it again, once I was log in I started to download one of my playlists, started to play some of the songs and it worked just fine. I added som local files in this playlist through my PC and started to sync it with my phone, i started to play that song and it worked. I Turned off my phone and turned off spotify on my pc, and started the phone again.
Started spotify and started to play the whole playlist (5songs) and it worked realy good. I turned OFFLINE on and once more started the playlist and it worked, I closed spotify and started it again, started to play the playlist without any problems.

Turned off my phone (still in offline mode in spotify) and started spotify once the phone booted up, and all things worked great.

SO far my own conclusion about this problem is that since the last update on Android (4.3) i got some serious problems, and Spotify works Great when Spotify is installed on the phone and not on the SD card (if there is any option that you can choose where it shall install apps on please tell!),. But before i can Confirm this anyfurther I am in this moment sitting here and looks at my phone, SD Card and my sim Card beside the phone :P,.  I will try to connect my SD card, and then turn on the phone and see if it works well, and then try the Sim Card.

1 Uninstall spotify
2 Take out the SD card and Sim Card

3 Start the phone and install spotify (without any card whats so ever inserted in the phone)

4 And then Sync all playlists

5 Play 😃

I will confirm this in a bit when my Phone has SD and Simcard installed again 🙂

Cheers (Hope this helped out a bit for ya guys and sorry for my english)

Hi, PLEASE HELP!!!

I am having a weird issue were only the first song from every downloaded playlist will play in offline mode. When downloading to my mobile device (android 4.2.2 ) the download status bar takes a long time for the first song and then rips through the rest e.g. 1 second per song. Green arrow shows downloaded but songs will not play. When I attempt to play the downloaded songs the progress bar moves but no sounds and the song starts again when you try and fast forward song. I have performed multiple clean installs and cache clearing with no change in the outcome. I am running the latest spotify . My account is premium but still within the 30day free trial (if that is making a difference???). I have over a gig of free space for music and have tried differenct music quality settings. Frustrating to say the least when the only reason I went with premium was to use Spotify on my mobile when in no service zones.

Thanks, Tim

Hi,

I have the same issue as "nejtack". Offline playlists not working and spotify stating "no internet available" all the time and stopping playback of songs.

Isn't the whole idea with offline playlists that you can use them while not connected to internet...

Phone is Nexus 4

Android 4.4.2

App version 0.7.6.343

I have the same problem on my device,a Sony Xperia Tipo, offline playlists have problem, after the screen turned off the song stop playing.

@user-removed That's normally because some setting or other app is suspending activity when your screen goes off. This is not the standard android behaviour as spotify tells the operating system to stay awake when it is playing.

@jwylot,I'll check this out since my device is rooted, something might need adjustment...

I found that in a rooted device, changing the governor(if the android kernel allows this),can help in some cages,I had problems in offline playing,I switched to the interactive governor and it works ok.If anyone has the same problem try this one

premium user, offline playlists are constantly downloading and once "downloaded" they stop playing when there is no internet connection. this is unacceptable for two reasons: 1) chewing up my data simply unacceptable (i know i can turn off downloadimg when on cell data but then im not using spotify so that is not a solution). 2) the only reason i pay for this service is for the offline option on my phone and it has been broken for about a month. at what point do you give refunds? hopefully i wont have to contest charges with my credit card company, but you guys are unfortunately not living up to your end of the deal here. at all. i have uninstalled it, wiped data, had offline devices reset, with no luck. please advise asap.

I am very sad as a customer that we can not talk straight away to the Android Product Owner 😞

I have the feeling that a huge number of users have been suffering the consequences of a really buggy algorithm to detect an external SD card and that tracks, even downloaded, are played in mute or re-downloaded (and none of the current solutions work). I am also wondering why the path option was removed from your software.

I truly believe that Spotify should engage their customers in a more proactive manner and offer a way to start some crucial conversations about new features and changes as soon as possible. That will show more transparency in their decisions and help us love your product.

My playlist only plays one song. I have downloaded the playlist on my device. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4. It refuses to change setting or re-download the songs. Just one step away from Premium Cancel mode. HELP

Do you still have issues if you turn off roaming then restart your phone?

Hello, i see above message has been tagged as solution, but it's not for me. I never have roaming on.

In fact I don't think it is a solution for most people, this issue is definitely NOT resolved.

I am a premum user, and all my downloaded playlists have been...Un-downloaded???

I use an S4 and tried reinstalling the app to no avail.

Would like some serious help with this, because I know all the data are still there on my sd card, i've seen 'em. It's just spotify doesn't read anymore or smth.
