Let me permanently disable Smart Shuffle

Solved!

Let me permanently disable Smart Shuffle

Plan: Premium

Country: USA

Device: Pixel 3xl

I do not want to use Smart Shuffle, at all, ever. For the past few months it has been screwing up my Liked Songs and it is extremely annoying. When I turn off shuffle because I am in a block of songs I want to listen to, the next song it plays will ALWAYS be a specific song instead of the next song in the list. This specific song changes whenever I add more songs to my liked songs.

I'm removing my service until fixed. Fix your app. We shouldn't need a vote. I dont want to hear trashy ass music randomly.

Months later and still nothing?  You have thousands of users begging you to let them turn this**bleep** off permanently and instead every god damn playlist seems to default to adding in random songs I do not want to hear.   STOP!

Hi there @bikiniweekend! Thanks for your post. We appreciate your feedback!

You can support this idea here by adding your +VOTE and clicking on Subscribe in the three-dots menu at the top right corner next to the title to make sure you stay up-to-date with any relevant updates about this.

It's always good to mention that Spotify is constantly testing possible improvements for its apps and content. This means you might see something on your app that your friend doesn’t or get a new feature to try temporarily.

Hope this helps clear things up.

My Question or Issue

Want to stop Spotify adding songs to my Liked playlist.

Don't see an Enhanced option playlist homepage.

Annoying. Thanks for any help you can provide.

The feature is not just useless, it's aggravating and - when driving or using touch-screen controls in the car - actively dangerous to have smart shuffle turn itself on and refuse to turn off.
Anyone who has used Spotify in a car knows how laggy the buttons can be. A single press may seem to do nothing at all, then the app will catch up and toggle shuffle on, but in the meantime, you've pressed again and now your playlist is ruined with garbage additions you didn't ask for. Trying to press the button again often seems to confuse the system, and it'll randomly toggle between """smart""" shuffle, the good shuffle, and off, but not in any predictable order.
How do I completely disable it?

Still waiting on them to implement this... I HATE the suggestions. I want to permanently disable smart shuffle. Having it the same button as the regular shuffle is AWFUL UX/UI.

i'm this close to cancelling my sub & getting a modded apk. This feature is so ass, it lags my whole phone. Can you imagine having to wait 3 seconds to TURN OFF SHUFFLE? joke of a service, honestly. I don't ever want to use smart shuffle, let me turn it off completely

smart shuffle is so ass

When you had the toggle enhanced next to shuffle it was good enough if I wanted to experiment. However, now I am very upset and angry, sometimes I want to spice up my playlist (meaning listen to them in a random order), but still don't want  random stuff on them that don't belong what's good is that we can create playlist and play for premium to be able to listen OUR playlist, if shuffling means you add random stuff as if I didn't pay for premium???

I need shuffle button back and enhanced toggleable again. I think I am not alone. Change this already.

This is the problem with Spotify. They can’t shuffle songs normally so some **bleep** adds a ridiculous feature that no one wants to justify their salary and shock me, you can’t disable it. It’s the most ridiculous “unavoidable” feature I’ve ever seen. Couldn’t think of any thing worse than switching to apple but far out im close….

This peace of sheet misfeature keeps ruining my mood. It turns on apparently at random, it's not well indicated in the app, and even if it did function well, it's not something I want. To top it off, it seems to be the default choice when pressing the shuffle button nowadays (but not always? It seems to be designed to scare away customers).

Seriously considering voting with my wallet here.

Agree 100% with the general statement that this is a ridiculous and worse than useless feature - it actively interferes with our listening. I remember when it was first brought out as a separate toggle, but that probably didn't get enough use so they decided to force it on people and set it as a second option on the shuffle button. But that still wasn't be used enough, so now they make it the default action for the button. Literally trying to force us to use it - they must be using the microsoft playbook.

Makes you wonder how much $ they make based on the songs their users listen to - I bet that's what's behind it. They probably make money money making us listen to certain songs. We all know it's a business, and they have to make money. But this is one dishonest and ignorant way to do it. This type of behaviour will drive people to finding alternative sources for their music.

Enough already with the ridiculous feature - give us a way to turn the thing off permanently or make it a separate toggle.

YES PLEASE remove**bleep**! Or at least give us the option. Also let me just say this might be a good feature if YOU are able to choose at your disclosure. As of right now I click and listen and.. "da **bleep**..?" and it has been activated. NO okay! REMOVE or at least give us option to disable as default!

It usually takes a few second to turn on while I just wanted to turn on normal-shuffle. I usually dont love the music it expands my playlists with. It also often, when I turn off smart shuffle, goes a second on normal-shuffle and then automatically goes back to smart shuffle. I often find myself pressing the button like 10 times or forget this glitch happens and have to stop what i'm doing to put the playlist back on normal-shuffle.

So I don't like the smart-shuffle setting but I understand why people would want to use it, it lets you discover music while enjoying your own, like the radio playlists for individual songs. So I whould like to see a setting so people can use the smart-shuffle when they like, just like how it is rigtht now, and for people like me who will turn it off and use the shuffle button like it was preveously.

Thanks for reading.

This smart shuffle is the worst ideas that spotify has ever had. They need to disable it, and never bring it back again.

I have a hardcore screamy playlist. Smart shuffle decides to play Paramore - all I wanted. Like, tf? I've subscribed to Spotify for years. If I can't permanently disable it I'm going to cancel my subscription.

I know this isn't perfect, but the best way I've found to circumvent smart shuffle is to download my playlists while smart shuffle is turned off, and then switch to offline mode. I know it's certainly not perfect but it's the only way I've found to get around this.

Be warned, if you download a playlist while smart shuffle is turned on, Spotify will also download smart shuffle songs that will get inserted once you go offline. If that happens, you have to remove that playlist download, turn off smart shuffle, redownload the playlist, and then go back offline.

It's really disappointing that as a paying member I have to put so much extra effort just to listen to only my songs. It didn't used to be this difficult. In general the app has gotten worse and worse over the years to the point where I've finally had to stop my subscription renewal.

YES!! I *hate* "smart" shuffle because it has no idea why my playlist exists. It could be a group of songs that feature a particular session musician whose playing I'm trying to analyze; it could be a set of songs that I'm going to need to perform; or it could be any of a hundred other reasons that will not benefit from the addition of random songs. I cannot imagine ever using this feature on purpose and it's way to easy to accidently leave on (I've been halfway through learning to play a song before realizing it was not part of the set and had, instead, been "smart" shuffled in by Spotify). In the rare case that I do want recommendations, I will look at Spotify's suggestions at the bottom of the playlist.

Today was the incident that broke the camel's back. This misfeature has annoyed me for the last time - I'm off to use Deezer instead. So long Spotify, and know that the only real reason I have is Smart Shuffle.

I agree, this is the most shitty function...
