My Question or Issue

Whenever I select a new song/playlist or connect to Bluetooth with the app open, shuffle turns itself off and I have to turn it back on manually. It also sometimes (but not always) does this if I exit the app, come back and resume the song that I was last playing.

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

 

We'd recommend you to start off with a clean reinstall of the Spotify app on your device. By doing that, the app can be up-to-date, and you can make sure some damaged cache is not leading to this inconvenience. You can see the steps for a clean reinstall here.

 

If this issue persists afterwards, we'd like to gather some additional info, so we can better understand this behavior. Please check and send us the following:

  • The exact Spotify version you're running on the affected device.
  • Does this happen if you open your account on a different mobile device? You can ask for the mobile device of a relative or friend to open it there.
  • Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update?

I am also experiencing this issue. It started happening with the last update. I un-installed, restarted my phone, and reinstalled. It's version 8.9.38.494 and is still not keeping shuffle or repeat settings. In addition to this issue, there is now a voice interrupting what was previously a quiet and nearly seamless device transition.

You mentioned that you've already reinstalled the app, but would you mind going through the steps of a clean reinstall, as it's more thorough than a normal one?


If this doesn't do the trick, could you ask a friend or a relative to log in to their account on your phone to see if they can replicate this? 

 

Lastly, sending us a short screen recording of the issue happening including the voice you mentioned would come in handy. You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

My Question or Issue

After the most recent update that announces "playlist resuming" when connecting to my car, shuffle keeps turning off on my playlists. And I have to click it twice to turn it back on because smart shuffle come before the regular shuffle. I would love a feature to just set a default shuffle setting for the account/playlist

When I first start playing music after a few hours of not using the app, shuffle mode has turned itself off. I rarely listen without shuffle, so I have to go into the app and change it back every time I start listening. I have never had this problem until recently, and I've already tried reinstalling the app.

I really want to assume this is a bug, but considering that the muscle memory method of turning on shuffle now enables smart shuffle instead, that seems like a losing bet. The only thing more annoying than the app constantly sticking smart shuffle in my face the last few months would be trying to shove it down my throat every time I want to listen to music the way I always have.

Problem still persists, sometimes while listening to a playlist, shuffle turns itself off.

@nilsihorn - Just to confirm, have you tried the steps mentioned earlier in the thread by @AlejaR? Feel free to give them a shot, if you haven't already.

 

It's also worth checking if you notice this behavior with multiple playlists or just with a specific one. Also, does it happen with other content, such as albums?

 

It would be great to know the make, model and OS version of your device as well, should the issue persist.

Hi, im also having same problem, everyyime i open spotify i need to turn on shuffle, it wont stay on unlike before, i tried already clear cache and reinstall the app, i tried to log in on my samsung fone and the shuffle is working fine, im having trouble on iphone 15 pro max.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, we understand you’ve already tried some troubleshooting steps including reinstalling, but did you use the steps for a clean reinstall mentioned in this article?

 

Also, since this is only happening on a single device, it would be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your iPhone - such as a friend or a family member, to see if the issue persists.

 

Lastly, include in your next response the make, model, and OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

Thanks for following up and for giving another account a try!

 

To confirm, have you noticed if Shuffle switches off when listening to specific playlists only? Also, if you create a brand new playlist and then turn on Shuffle from the top of that list - does it make any difference?

 

If possible, you can include a short video showing how things look from your end, so we can get a better visual of the issue you're experiencing. Should the files be too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos (just make sure to not include any personal details).

 

Also, there are other reports of Shuffle not working as expected in this thread, which is being looked into by our tech folks. But as a heads-up, it does sound slightly different than what you're describing. If you'd like, however, feel free to have a look at the comments there, just to double-check if it seems like what you're experiencing as well 🙂
