Spotify Crashes Android SystemUI

Spotify Crashes Android SystemUI

Since last weekend (march 9, 2024) I've been unable tonuse the app properly. If I put on a song my phone flickers between a black screen and the background image, as if locking and unlocking the phone on its own until one of these two outcomes:

1) the phone is forced into Safemode System UI until I restart

2) I force restart the phone

I have tried: deleting cache, force close it, uninstall, give all permissions, but nothing works in my phone. If I try from my personal conputer it works perfectly, so it has to be related to mobile app and/or Android. What's going? The mobile app is practically unusable. Also, this only happens with Spotify, some mobile games I have, Facebook, or Youtube work perfectly fine without issues.

Hello everyone,

Apologies for the radio silence from our end.

We'd like to report the issue to our tech team as soon as possible, but for this we'll need some more details, so please let us know the following:

  • Does it only happen when in a Jam or when using Spotify Connect (i.e. when you're using the device as a remote control and not playing through it directly)?
  • Is it the same behavior shown in the Reddit post shared by @XaviRP? If not, and you have the option to record it with another device, please send over a short video or a detailed description of what happens on your end.
  • If you're currently using a different version of the app or your phone's OS than the one you've shared previously, send that as well as it will help the team in their investigation.

Appreciate your patience and sorry again for not replying sooner! We'll be on the lookout for your replies.

The real bizarre thing is, when I updated again, I read from someone that disabling the notifications for Spotify works also. And low and behold it did.

And now for an even weirder turn.... when I enabled the notifications again and use the app like before (with no changes whatsoever, the problem dissappeard (for now)....

Interesting stuff if I do say so myself

I have the same problem POCO X5 pro

Same problem I guess. The guy on this post have the same problem. Once you press play, system crashes. https://www.reddit.com/r/PocoPhones/comments/1dfy91z/phone_freaking_out_when_using_spotify_anyone_el...

  • Its OS version - Android 14UKQ1.230804.001
  • Your currently installed Spotify app version - 8.9.50.552

Same problem. Redmi note 13, latest OS and Spotify version 8.9.50.552

Same problem. Poco F4

Same problem here, using a Xiaomi 12

Same Problem.

Is there any update?

Hey folks,

Could you give @tomtech's workaround of disabling/enabling the notifications for Spotify in your android settings a try to see if that does the trick for you too?

Let us know how it goes!

For now im using the versión mentioned earlier in the discusión. Try that version

Have this same problem. Deleted the app.

Premium, android 14, Guyana, Samsung S22+

I got the same issue with my Redmi Note 12 4G and Xiaomi Pad 5 as well using the other one as a Spotify remote to another the only device that never had this issue is POCO M3 I've done all there is to do restarting phone multiple times clearing cache and deleting app data to uninstalling and reinstalling but nothing works

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.8.0, Redmi Note 13 5G and using the latest Spotify version. I also noticed this only happens when I try to use an external device to play the songs, i.e Alexa. I also experienced it when trying to join a Jam, after joining it I literally could not open the app without the issue starting to happen.

The same problem returns from time to time in different versions of the app. It happend before, then it went away after an update, now it started again for me in the latest update.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Android 14, Spotify 8.9.76.538.

Same Problem it started after updating my OS

Phone:redmi 13c

OS:Hyper OS 1.0.5.0 (Android 14)
