My Question or Issue
I've noticed when connected to my car via bluetooth (no android auto), the video part of any podcast will not load. The audio will work, but it seems the video doesn't even attempt to load. This happens both when podcasts are downloaded and not downloaded so it can't be an internet issue. I'm unsure if this is intentional or not by Spotify, but messing around in the settings I could not find anything either. Hope there's an easy fix somewhere, thanks!
Hi folks,
Thanks for your posts.
We understand your frustration from not being able to access the full range of app features while driving.
Many on-board systems do not allow videos to be played on certain apps, while connected to the car via BT/cable, this is why the Video option gets automatically disabled on some vehicles.
Driving responsibly and with as few distractions as possible is very important.
If you do feel like this policy should change, go ahead and create an idea on the relevant idea board. We always take new ideas and feedback into consideration to improve the app. Here you can read more on how ideas work.
We also suggest checking this help article for useful tips on how to submit an idea. As a heads-up, it's good to know that the higher the number of votes an idea gets, the more likely it is for the idea to be implemented.
Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any more questions.
From the terrible implementation of this forum (doesnt show what people are responding to, making it harder to follow) to the condescending and gaslighting (yes I am using that correctly, yes I am also aware that most people do not) way that this is being dealt with, just goes to show that Spotify is probably the worst company. This isnt the first issue with Spotify not working correctly due to a decision BY SPOTIFY and they try to blame it on something else... Take the response:

Right off the bat, despite MANY people giving perfectly legitimate reasons why they might be connected to a cars Bluetooth device and still be perfectly fine and safe to watch the video (parked, passenger, children...) they condescend like "we know you just want to watch video while driving, so we are just going to ignore everything else". This is so disingenuous and insulting to their own PAYING customers, reminds me of Comcast. Only somehow even worse. The condescension here is the way it is disguised as good customer support "We understand your frustration... with not being able to break the law".
Many on-board systems do not allow videos to be played on certain apps, while connected to the car via BT/cable, this is why the Video option gets automatically disabled on some vehicles.
Then they go on to the gaslighting... more disingenuousness, blaming other systems and just blatant lying. As if the car audio system can FORCE your phone NOT to show video... as if poor Spotify (the ONLY one with this problem) is a victim of this terrible policy by some car manufacturers.
Driving responsibly and with as few distractions as possible is very important.
Wait, so is this a decision you are admitting to having control over or not? And once again, insinuating that we are just irresponsible children who cant be trusted with the ability to turn safety features on and off... That we cannot make the decision for ourselves how, when and where we want to consume content. We just cannot be trusted. Sure you might take your lunch break in your car, or have kids that want to watch a show in the back, but F those little F'ers ear drums, Spotify knows what's best, stick a headset on them.

And then we get the grace of an option that they will ignore. They have shown their hand with this. You cannot be trusted to make decisions for yourself. and Spotify isn't even claiming that they can do anything about it. This isn't a Spotify problem at all, its a car problem, and a "you're too irresponsible to have the option problem", nothing they can do about it.
Also take into account that everything that has worked to go AROUND the problem, has been "patched" by Spotify... It seems like it is not just about trying to look like they are being secure, they are actively monitoring this and fixing work arounds... Basically showing just how much they think of all of us.
If you made it this far, the solution is the one the person shared about the Sound and Audio Switching (at least for Samsung):
@LionelG wrote:I've got a quick work around that I just discovered this morning for Samsung Galaxy.
Go to phone settings> sound and vibration> separate app sound
Set app to Spotify and audio device to Bluetooth device.
Toggle off and on and the video should be up.
This is the one that worked for me.
My phone use to play the video and the audio in the car. Now it doesn't play the video anymore. I'm frustrated that it does not work anymore. Why did it stop all of a sudden.
This isn't helpful. Not all of us are drivers. My wife likes to watch the videos while I drive, because the only time we have to listen to podcasts is when we're in the car
Has this issue been fixed yet? I want to see the videos of podcasts when I have them playing in my bedroom via Bluetooth from my iPhone to google speaker
