My Question or Issue

As of recently, whenever I switch between my phone and google home mini or vice versa, whatever playlist I am listening to starts back from the beginning. This happens on regular playlists, a song radio, daily mix etc. It used to pick up where it left off, so it seems like something changed recently.

Hi there @chessami92,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome!

For staters, we recommend reinstalling the Spotify on your device with these steps to check if that helps. You can also try unlinking your Spotify account from your Google speaker and linking it again using these steps.

On another note, you mention this happening with multiple playlists, does it happen with every playlist? It's also a good idea to check if you observe the same behavior when the devices are connected to a different network. A mobile hotspot is usually a convenient way to test this.

Lastly, this is simple, but try rebooting your speaker. You can find the steps to do so on this article from Google Support.

Let us know how that goes.

My Question or Issue

If I select a playlist on shuffle or smart shuffle, I get a shuffled selection of songs which play though, and all is fine.

If sometime later (not immediately, lets say hours) I swap devices the queue will go back to what was playing in the morning. It isn't just one or two songs playing again, it is the same songs in the same order.

You can see it in the two screenshots below. One was early in the morning, and the second is just after lunch. You can see from "Eye Hate U" onwards is a repeat. This is because I swapped devices at some point between my phone and echo.

There is no way to "reset" the shuffle that I know of.

Any response to this Spotify?

There is more computing power in a modern phone that all the computing power that put man on the moon, but it can't shuffle a spotify playlist. And so I know what songs are coming up regardless of the shuffle setting and there is no way to change it.

Hi, any updates? Is it possible to get someone to look at this?

This is still happening. You can see the two identical queues of upcoming songs, despite being hours apart, and apparently shuffled.

I hate to sound arsy, but a fix, or even a response from Spotify after weeks, for such a fundamental problem shouldn't be too much to ask for should it? And yet it is just being totally ignored.

The ability to shuffle songs shouldn't be too much to ask for?

I just wanted to add that I have been having the same issue for the last year or so. I'm on a Pixel 7 Pro (now running Android 15, previously Android 14), and have seen the issue when switching between various pairings of a pair of bluetooth headphones, a bluetooth speaker, a Bluetooth to 3.5mm in an older vehicle, bluetooth Android Auto, wired Android Auto, Google Chromecast, Google Chromecast Audio, Google Home, Windows 10 desktop, and a Windows 10 Laptop.

Still can't believe there is not even an acknowledgement of this from Spotify. That is pretty poor.

There is no real workaround that I know of but (doing Spotify's work for them) if you turn off the Smart Shuffle it doesn't often repeat like this. Basically, Smart Shuffle is a fundamentally broken design, because appears to be "created" once a day on Spotify servers. Your Spotify client doesn't create the shuffle order, as it seems to do with the normal shuffle.

If you don't use Smart Shuffle, you can normally just turn shuffle on and off again.

When it happens with Smart Shuffle, just turn off Smart Shuffle until the next day. **bleep**, but that is just how broken something as simple as a shuffle is.

My Question or Issue

When using Spotify app on IOS it sometimes repeats the songs played during a previous session in my playlist in the same order when switching bluetooth devices from Amazon Dot to my JBL Clip 4. Autoplay is turned off.

Hi there @JB001,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Spotify Community!

I'd recommend starting off with a clean reinstall of the app to make sure you're running the latest version and to remove any damaged cache. Another thing worth trying is re-linking Spotify to your speakers and rebooting them as well. I'd also recommend making sure Repeat is off in the Now Playing view to see if that makes a difference.

Let us know how it goes.

This is absurd. I've been having the same issue... We pay for this service. Please, for the love of all that is holy, fix this seemingly simple issue. You're a billion dollar corporation. Act like it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for all the info you've sent so far.

@chessami92, @Beef4Dinner, just to confirm, are you still experiencing this? If so, make sure to perform a clean reinstall of the app to make sure you're running the latest version.

Those who are still experiencing this, so could you provide us with the following (if you haven't already)?:

  • your devices' make, model and OS version (make sure to send the updated info)
  • the exact version of Spotify you're running
  • has this started happening after a specific event such as an update?
  • does the issue persist over any network?
  • the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far

We'll pass this info on to the right team to be looked into.

We'll be on the lookout for your replies.

“Music acts like a magic key, to which the most tightly closed heart opens.”– Maria von Trapp

My Question or Issue
After listening to a queue of songs, closing and reopening the app will revert the queue to the same set of songs just listened to.

Expected Results
Reopening the application should persist my place in the queue.

Actual Results
Reopening the application resets the queue progress, putting the same songs in line to be listened to again.

Attachments
Attached screen recording demonstrates this behavior. In the recording, I show the queue and then jump ahead to a song further along. When I restart the app, while it remembers the song actively being played, you see many of the songs that were in the initial queue back in line.

the algorithm clearly thinks those are your favorite songs so obviously you do want to listen to them again

You're clearly a bot and do not understand the true intent of what yoob is getting at.

So,

i’m still having the same issue!

i haven’t been using spotify as much since it has gotten so hot (105+) outside here in AZ.
However, i listened to a session (about 6 songs) on my echo dot connected to my iphone spotify app via bluetooth via rca cables to my home stereo receiver.

i than replaced the echo dot with a bluetooth transmitter/receiver connected to my iphone spotify app via bluetooth for better sound quality & spotify repeated the entire session (same 6 songs) in the exact same order on the new bluetooth transmitter/receiver.

i cleared the cache & app is the latest version 9.0.50.511 before the first session on the echo dot…

Hey @JB001,

thanks for following up! Sorry to hear you're still experiencing issues.

As you mention using the free service, does this happens with Pick and Play playlists too (such as Daily Mixes, Discover Weekly, etc.)? Or does this only occur with shuffled playlists?

Also, just to confirm, did you try a clean reinstall of the app as well, as suggested earlier in the thread?

It's worth checking if disconnecting other Bluetooth devices that you've linked to your speaker makes any difference. Some devices and models support multi-point connection, which could interfere with playback.

Keep us posted!

My Question or Issue

I have noticed recently when using Spotify Shuffle on my playlists, the queue refills with songs that have been listened to in previous sessions.

This usually occurs when my device connects to a Bluetooth speaker, or when connecting to my car via Apple CarPlay.

I have tried to resolve this issue by uninstalling and reinstalling the Spotify app, but it hasn’t seemed to have fixed the issue I’m dealing with. I’ve also turned off the existing playback settings prior to this issue.

I haven’t force quit the app, so it doesn’t involve relaunching the app after it has been closed.

My Question or Issue

Often when I connect my phone to a Bluetooth device (e.g. Portable speaker, car, wireless earbuds, Google Home mini), the queue list of upcoming songs for the playlist I was listening to will change, including replaying songs I already heard either in that session or earlier that day. This is with my self-constructed playlists with settings always turned off like smart shuffle and keep playing once Playlist over. It's very frustrating, as I almost seemingly the can't get through a Playlist. Has been happening for a long time.
