Hi Spotify Team,
I'm excited to see that lossless audio has finally started rolling out to Premium subscribers! However, I've noticed that the Linux desktop client appears to be missing this highly anticipated feature.
According to the September 10, 2025 announcement, lossless streaming is available on "mobile, desktop, and tablet" - but when I check my Linux Spotify client settings, there's no option to enable lossless quality under Media Quality settings. The highest available option is still "Very High" rather than the new "Lossless" setting mentioned in the announcement.
As a Linux user and Premium subscriber, I'd really appreciate having feature parity with other desktop platforms. Many Linux users are audiophiles who would greatly benefit from 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC streaming, especially since we often have high-quality audio setups.
Could you please confirm:
I understand the feature is rolling out gradually, but it would be great to know that Linux users aren't being left behind on this major Premium feature enhancement.
Thanks for your time and for continuing to improve Spotify!
The so-far great Linux support is a main reason I pay for Spotify Premium.
I'm also waiting for this feature on linux desktop.
I suspect it's because Linux is a far smaller userbase than Windows or Mac, so it's lower on the priority list - but as a Linux user myself I would also like to see lossless playback! The better Linux becomes for people who would normally use Windows the more demand you'll see for Linux versions of software in general.
I'm also paying for premium and would like to see support for lossless in the Linux app.
As far as I can tell you will not see the 'Lossless' option until it is rolled out for your account. I don't see it on my phone yet so I am not worried. Spotify Linux already has great sound quality (better than any other platform) but I am hoping lossless will take it that bit further.
Sure, but in my case (and for many others), the mobile app already includes the lossless option, which, as you mentioned, is tied to the user account.
Since the Linux app uses the Chromium Embedded Framework, I thought this change could be triggered server-side. However, I may be wrong, and it could require a full update to support lossless.
See the other threads about this issue. You require a newer client version which is not yet released for Linux. That is why you can not get lossless as of now on LInux. I have lossless on my phone and Macbook but not on Linux.
Lossless hasn't been rolled out to my account yet, but I'd like the Linux client to be ready when it is.
There were no updates since May 😐 We need at least version 1.2.67 but only got 1.2.63. Mac and Windows got it. I tried via waydroid, wine and bottles but had no success. No statement at all without clarifying technical problems is often not the best sign for Linux support :*(
Is there any chance we get an official statement to this issue?
I really hope they fix this soon.
Hoping the team knows how powerful their contributions to the linux community is, especially for this one. This is the big one right?
My linux system has probably the best audio system I have to try lossless - external usb DAC and yamaha studio monitors, hope it's coming soon
