My Question or Issue

For the past week or so, I get the error "Spotify can't play this right now" when listening through web player on Chrome, if I pick a song it will display that error for several songs and then eventually play a different song - never had a problem previously. It works fine on my iPhone app, works fine on Edge browser, but is only happening on Chrome which is my default browser.

It's very odd that only Chrome is affected, since Edge is also Chromium-based. Could you let us know the following, @ffc2004:

  • Does this happen with specific playlists (like only in Liked Songs) or does it occur with all playlists in general?
  • Are you able to play content from Search instead?
  • What about podcasts? Have you tested if they're also affected or is it just music that won't play?

This will help us narrow things down. Keep us posted 👍

Search has the same issue
All playlists affected - even Spotify ones
Appears to just be music - tested 3x podcasts and all seemed to play ok

Interesting. Is this on a work machine or does it happen at home? If it's the former, your system administrator might have set specific restrictions on your browser which might be preventing certain content from being played, so it's worth checking with them.

 

In any case, we've forwarded the details to our tech folks who'll have a closer look. We're unable to provide an ETA for a fix at the moment, but as MS Edge seems to work flawlessly, we'd recommend using it as an alternative for the time being (or you can try downloading the desktop app instead). It's a good idea to make sure Chrome is always running the latest updates too.
