My Question or Issue

My Desktop Version got updated all of a sudden and now i got a completely different look. I don't have the friend activity bar on the right side, i can't change my playlists covers or description. I can't even see my own profile like before on the top right. It is like the phone version because i honestly can't customize anything anymore.

Same on the Web player. I downloaded an older version already, which helps, but it updates itself automatically and gets back to the new(?) design. Is there anyone with the same issues or with a solution?

Thanks.

so my friend has the new update also ready on his mac. told him not to download and deactivate the auto download asap. he said if he gets it he's simply moving to apple music. gg Spotify

his spotify just updated. he has now the same version as i 1.1.33.569 (on mac) but his looks exactly like the version 1.1.28 he had before. No loss of features etc...

Can some moderator please explain this to me?

It’s not about which version you have. It’s about which interface it’s showing you.

This is pretty ridiculous. My lady and I were excited to move over to Spotify with Google wanting to move everyone over to Youtube Music, but we're having completely different experiences with the service based on something stupid like interfaces that seem to be randomized? Just make it the same across the board.

Yeah but it's just ridiculous that some people get it with the new updates and some don't. i mean more and more people complain in this feed every day/week. Why are they bringing it slowly to more users until everyone has it? THIS WHOLE THING MAKES NO SENSE AND THAT COMMUNITY MANAGER FROM BEFORE SHOULD ANSWER. YOU SAID YOU ARE READING ALL THIS SO GIVE US A PROPER ANSWER TF

Not a fan of the new web-based interface that Spotify is testing.

Since a few days, the view has changed completely in my Desktop app (Using the latest version on Mac).

- Not possible to upload covers for playlists

- Not possible to edit Playlist descriptions

- Not possible to drag multiple items around in playlist (Holding "Shift" and select another track to select multiple tracks is not possible)

- Not possible to resize the side bar

- Not possible to show Friend Activity

- Not showing "Following" tabs or other info on personal Profile page, just my name.

- Playlist width is not 100% of the Desktop client window.

If anyone finds a way to toggle the old view back, I'd love to hear it.

(There is a test, where spotify changes the view of the desktop app to the view of the web player, whereas the last one lacks on features like sorting playlists, rearranging the songs in 'Next up', adding offline music, and a lot more.)

Here you can vote for reverting the change (or for not spreading the test further):

That is nowhere near an explanation. We've gotten this automated answer a few times now but this is not the answer we are all searching for.

Is this the reason I'm having serious accessibility issues with Spotify now? When I first open the app, everything seems folded away and the buttons aren't labeled as far as my screen-reader is concerned. If I press Full-screen, the labels come back and I have the previous interface for the rest of the session, but then I also have this issue where I cannot switch to Liked Songs if there wasn't already a panel like Recently Played open, and that's just terrible design. Who do we have to yell at to fix this **bleep**?

This is also affecting me. I hate it

Here is another feature that disappeared: when adding a song to a playlist that already has that exact song, Spotify used to throw a warning stating that you will be adding a duplicate song. It also then gave you the option to "skip duplicates".
No such warning and skip abilities anymore since that latest worthless update.
I can't understand why on earth Spotify would remove so much of its functionality. We're left with a useless music app now.

I'm a F***ed Up Dancer but My Moods Are Swinging

I just purchased a Family account after using a Premium one for years and now I am stuck with no possibilities to import/edit/whatever on my new and fresh account. This is VERY frustrating, making me regretting to upgrade my account to the Family one.

The previous account, linked to the Family one is perfectly working but the new one is absolutly worthless. I can't mass select music, edit playlists, clone the previous account... We need to have access to the previous build and I don't understand why this copy/paste must be THAT difficult and non-effective.

Unreal. As a new customer converting from Google Play Music I am baffled as to why Spotify would offer such basic limited functionality to manage my music.

I have no columns to sort my playlist! I can't filter to see a specific song, I can't sort by artist, by album... Nothing! This is painful. 1000 songs and I have to scroll through a list sorted alphabetically by song title and that is all I can do.

1 day into my subscription and I am cancelling. Good job Spotify.

Same situation here. I tried to downgrade to some old version, and that does all I need. Unfortunately it gets autoupdated, and the new version is just not usable. Multi select does not work, no filters, overal user experience on the level of prototype or mockup. All that while the other person registered to my Family subscription gets the old UI. Chat with support concluded that "we can't fix this" (which I do not believe).

I'm afraid I will be cancelling even before the end of free trial, this is not good enough even for free.

Same thing happening to me and I'm also planning on switching to another service if this isn't fixed. What is the point of a music organizing system with no capabilities. Garbage.

This is absolutely ridiculous, these Spotify programmers must just be running around the office with their heads cut off lol. You cannot update an app by removing key features and call it an "improvement". I mean I've been using Spotify desktop for a few years to cultivate playlists and now I can't even use it for one of the main basic ideas behind a music service?!? The platform looks way different and incredibly restricting, I'm usually not one to complain about change but this is no doubt a downgrade,

I'm hoping this doesn't last and is otherwise fixed or else there'll be a lot of upset customers. I really don't want to have to cancel my family plan and move to apple music but I may have to ugh.

50% of features, 100% sticker price.

"Don't fix it if it ain't broke" - Thomas Bertram (1977)

Here are a few more additions:

- Even though "Make new playlists public" is switched OFF in Settings, newly created playlists are made public. The setting to create secret playlists by default is ignored.

- Local files are gone, and unplayable from my playlists or archive. I can't add them in the settings, or play them from the client.

Looks like the A/B testing of the new UI is based on account, not Desktop client version.

I purchased a new Family Plan account last week: only when I log in to this new account, I get the horrible interface. My old account is working perfectly, showing the correct features and UI. This is using the same machine, with the same Desktop client on MacOS. Just different accounts.

Disappointing that one of the features Spotify actively advertises is Local Files: https://support.spotify.com/us/using_spotify/features/listen-to-local-files/

They are simply not offering this in the client, while I'm paying for this feature.

Interaction with live support told me the same : it's a test (hooray...) , it's temporary and they can't fix it/turn it off (as an application support myself, I have this kind of rights, but anyway), they don't even want to communicate the period of this "test".

The only response was the same old copypasta "we'll inform the team in charge" it's been up since 03/16 seriously...

For everyone here not happy with the UI changes, make sure to VOTE to revert this change if you haven't done already. It's only a single click:
