My Question or Issue

My Desktop Version got updated all of a sudden and now i got a completely different look. I don't have the friend activity bar on the right side, i can't change my playlists covers or description. I can't even see my own profile like before on the top right. It is like the phone version because i honestly can't customize anything anymore.

Same on the Web player. I downloaded an older version already, which helps, but it updates itself automatically and gets back to the new(?) design. Is there anyone with the same issues or with a solution?

Thanks.

worry not my friend, I am persistent when it comes to stuff like this, if I have to, I will reinstall the old version day by day, minute by minute, I don't care, it's a game for me, eventually I will scan all ports and hostnames used by spotify and cherry pick the hostname and send it to /dev/null if I have to and it gets more aggressive, but for now it all works as it should.

That's not the problem at all.
The very same app on the very same computer behaves entirely different deppending on which account I'm logged in.
It's not a problem of upgrading.
😞

oh man**bleep**, I am sorry to hear that, I am glad this is not the case for me 😞
Are you a paying customer?

I am now monitoring spotify and I will look at it until it tries to download the update, identify the ip and block it

Hey people, I just realized something:

As I said I have 2 accounts. One of them works fine with the good interface and I log to it through an e-mail address; the other one is the f***** up interface and I log to it through my FACEBOOK account.
Also my wife logs with an username and password. Her interface is also the good one.
So, here's my question: is it possible that this is a problem for those who log to spotify through his/her facebook account?

@lenxo81

I agree that treating customers like this does not bode well for Spotify's long-term success. Here's some oddities surrounding the entire situation:

1) customer service/front-line support is saying that this is an a/b test of some sort being carried out by the development side of the house.

2) higher level support acknowledges an 'issue' which they try and fail to fix through host file changes or moving of one's playlists to an entirely new account (with accompanying loss of play history used by the recommendation and radio algorithms)

3) lack of communication on what is even being tested or provision of a method to collect direct feedback from users, although they assure that some sort of feedback is being passed along to somebody somewhere doing something. This is perhaps the most egregious given the test's degradation of commonly used features.

All this seems to indicate serious internal communication breakdowns (lack of communication regarding testing between customer support and technical development) reminiscent of a completely silo'd org structure. Nobody seems to know what the heck is going on in their own house, let alone what to tell paying customers whose user experience is being significantly downgraded.

This will be my last post here. I've cancelled my family plan subscription and am trying out other services. While none can do everything Spotify does, there are quite a few alternatives. Deezer, Tidal, Apple Music, Youtube Music all provide the same music streaming service. Spotify is banking on you being 'locked in' to their service. They honestly think you'll be too lazy to change services so you'll put up with worse and worse treatment.

@ItzhakHotz I don't think it has to do with facebook. My account has never been associated with fb, yet I still got put into this darn test.

2003:db:9f0f:22fc:45fc:1c73:b819:e2ed this is the ipv6 used for downloading the update.
in my next trick I will disabled ipv6 in my adapter and find out the ipv4

I also canceled my premium account. And changed to Deezer.
Deezer is pretty much like Spotify, except for one thing: playlists only support a maximum os 2000 songs.
My main playlist on Spotify has over 8500 songs, that is to say that when I migrated to Deezer I ended up with 5 playlists, which is a boomer.
But I’m simply giving up Spotify.

finally got the ipv4 for the upade download!
151.101.14.248 on port 443 just like the ipv6, now all left is to try if the same ip is used to stream music.
🙂

Sorry I was wrong with the hosts file!

You need to create a firewall rule in your firewall!

In my case I am using the Windows Firewall.

Follow these steps and do it for inbound and outbound connections!

#Spotify Updates

127.0.0.1   151.101.14.248
::1               2003:db:9f0f:22fc:45fc:1c73:b819:e2ed
Add this to your hosts file, it might work (I am testing it right now! takes a little time until spotify initiates the update function, cannot tell exactly when)

Hi,

I just find out the main reason is removing access of Profile in approved applications page. My only question is how do I reaccess Profile?

Thanks!

ok it just updated again, what is this, there must be more ips

I found another ipv6 2a04:4e42:1b::760

I gave up on the ip solution, I think I found a better way to prevent the auto update, just by setting the permissions to deny for the Update folder to everything, also I noticed that it keeps updating via ipv6 but not via ipv4, this is so strange.
spotify dude just make it good again, look at what you made me do, wasting hours of my life finding the update ips and still not having any luck with it...

damn

Hey, humans!

After two days in direct contact with <snip - Moderator Edit> they finally said "I HAVE A PROBLEM IN MY ACCOUNT". Yes, that's right. They BLAMED ME for the bug they put in my account themselves.

Although they offered me a SOLUTION: they would migrate all my data to a new account they can create associated to the same e-mail!

They offered this like some wonderful idea, which is simply dumb and nonsense: If they can do this, why don't they do this right away? If they have identified the problem why not to shot a message to these users explaining they did a mistake but that they may repare by these steps? Why in **bleep** they prefer to blame the users?

Well, I don't know.

If I got bugs at my place, I call the exterminators. They must come and kill the bugs. That's their job! Their job is not to make me move to another house that's perfectly like the one which is bugged!

But the fact remains that this may repair my account. Should I take the risk? What do you think?

Itzhak

@snup are you sure that it can be solved via our own computer?

i mean you can have the same app on the same computer, logged in with the same windows user and still get different UIs for different spotify accounts?

@ItzhakHotz just saw your comment, I will ask them to do this asap for me.

My "test" account is a fresh one, I can try it before if you need a beta tester aha.

Exactly.

In the same computer, with the same app, my account has this docaralho's version, while my wife's account runs like the old good one.

Whilst I think many in the community can understand that you need to A/B test features, surely some user research has gone into these features first?

All of the structure and organisation that used to be present on the home screen, artist pages, album pages, is all gone, it just looks like a badly designed scaled up mobile app with boxes everywhere.

Really uncomfortable to use and feels like a serious backwards not forwards step.

I hope this isn't a direction you are intending to pursue further.
