My Question or Issue

I started getting Error Code: Auth16 for no reason, about 3 weeks ago. I have no idea why. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, disabling firewall, and I don't use a proxy nor a VPN. Are there are other fixes?

Hi there @midniqht,

Welcome to the Community!

Sorry to hear you started getting this error message.

First of all, I'd recommend checking your hosts file and clearing any entry containing Spotify from there. You can follow the instructions in this FAQ. These entries can cause issues when the PC app or web player try to reach the servers.

If that doesn't help, try to update the proxy settings:

  1. Click the Settings button on the bottom of the log-in screen. Go to the 'update proxy' settings
  2. Choose 'No Proxy' from the dropdown in the top right corner
  3. Click 'Update Proxy' on the left, otherwise your change will not be saved!
  4. Click 'Back To Login'
  5. Restart the app

Let us know how you get on.

I don't see anything in the hosts file...

Also,  though my proxy settings "No Proxy," I still can't' log in.

Hey @midniqht,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Would it be possible to try running your PC in Safe Mode?

Let us know if that resolves the issue.
