My Question or Issue
Hello People of the Spotify Community,
I cant see anything when I log into my account. I have a blank screen. I dont see any songs or playlists. I don't know how long this has been happening, but I would say over a month. In the past I've has issues with loading too, no songs would load, but I could still listen to my playlists. Now I cant even see that. If it helps at all, I have done more than 3 complete reinstalls of the app.
Thanks,
RyanNet
Try a complete clean install of the App, more about that here.
Leave a like, choose this as solution if I helped. Thanks.
Hey @RyanNet11, welcome to the Community.
Hope you are doing great!
Try to disable Hardware Acceleration, just click on the … top left corner, inside the View tab find Hardware Acceleration and next click on it to disable then confirm to restart Spotify.
Let me know how it goes 🙂
Thanks for the responses! Sadly they both proved unsuccessful. I tried disabling Hardware Acceleration, but that didn't work. I then tried reinstalling it and disabling Hardware Acceleration, then login in and I still see a black screen. Any other ideas?
Thanks Ryan
Hey @RyanNet11,
Thank you for your answer.
Could you try the following:
1. Open Notepad as an Administrator (right-click - Open as Administrator)
2. Go to File > Open and navigate to
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
3. Choose "All Files" instead of "Text Documents" next to the File Name box. You'll see a handful of files. Pick hosts and click on Open.
4. The file is opened. You will see a block of text with # in front of each line and might see entries like
0.0.0.0 website.com 127.0.0.1 website2.com
Check for any entries with spotify or fastly in the address. Examples may look like:
0.0.0.0 weblb-wg.gslb.spotify.com
0.0.0.0 spclient.wg.spotify.com 0.0.0.0 prod.b.ssl.us-eu.fastlylb.net
(and any variations inbetween)
5. If you do find any, you can delete the line. You can also add a # in front of the line, that's 'commenting out'.
6. Save your changes. Restart Spotify.
Or, you can also try removing all lines to see what happens.
Keep me posted 🙂
Thanks Loxer,
Sadly this also didn't work. I didn't see ant entries from Spotify. I didn't see any other entries either. Spotify still just stays blank. Any other Ideas?
Ryan
Hey @RyanNet11,
Thank you for getting back to me 🙂
I'd suggest trying to add those entries and see if anything changes. Remove them again though.
Are you using any firewall software or something similar that might be blocking the Spotify app?
Have you tried under a different connection or with a different Spotify account?
Also, which version of Spotify do you have installed, is it the Windows Store version or did you download it from Spotify's website?
Let me know how it goes 🙂
Thanks for the response, sadly this also failed. Ug..... I added the examples and it didn't do much. I then deleted them. I am not (knowingly) using any firewall software or anything other that could possibly be blocking Spotify. I just tried using a new account after reinstalling the app, and it does the same thing. I am using the Spotify version from spotify.com I'm running out of ideas.
Ryan
Hey @RyanNet11,
That's definitely strange. Is it possible for you to try on a different network connection?
Try creating a new user account on Windows too, install Spotify there if is not installed and see if it works on it.
Since you mentioned you downloaded it from the Spotify site maybe try the Windows Store version from here.
Lastly, go into Safe Mode. To do so open Run (Windows key + R) then enter msconfig. Go to Boot tab and enable Safe Mode with Network, apply the settings and restart. Try using Spotify there and see if there's any difference. To get out of the safe mode simply disable Safe Mode from msconfig.
Let me know how this goes 🙂
I have the same problem and tried everything here except the safe mode 😞
Hey @MisterGeneric,
Did you try on safe mode yet?
Also, if you and @RyanNet11 still not getting it to work could you try these steps as well to open Spotify on compatibility mode:
Right-click on your Spotify shortcut.
Select Properties.
In the properties window, open the Compatibility tab.
Click on Change settings for all users button on the bottom.
Under Compatibility mode, check Run this program in compatibility mode.
Select Windows 7.
Under Settings, check the Run this program as an administrator box.
Click Apply and OK to save the changes.
Open the app and test it again.
Let me know if that helps 🙂
Tried safe mode a while ago, still didn't work I thought I sent a reply but apperently it didn't get sent
*update*
I went away for a weekend and the issue was somehow resolved. I am not on my original account, it's a new account, but I can now use it as normal. I am not sure if there was an update or not. I no longer have the issue. I have no clue what fixed the issue. Thanks for the help Loxer!
RyanNet11
Hey @RyanNet11,
I'm glad that it works just fine for you now!
What about you @MisterGeneric?
Are you still experiencing this issue?
After like 2 months, I tried again- and nope. Still doin the same o' thing unfortunately 😞
Hi again @MisterGeneric,
Thanks for getting back in touch. Sorry to heat it's still happening.
Could you try logging it to a different account, like a friend's or relative's, to see if this behavior persists? This would help us understand if maybe this issue is account-related.
Keep us posted.
Hey @MisterGeneric,
Thanks for the reply.
Can you try downloading the app from our website. After that go into windows Safe Mode, uninstall the old app and install the newly downloaded version.
Keep us posted on how it goes.
Spotify app is known to just stay blank when there's something wrong in the language packs.
On the Traditional Chinese version, for example, Spotify wrongly uses zh-hant as the filename for the pack, and that causes Windows using Traditional Chinese to fail and display a blank screen, because Windows looks for a zh-TW language code. This has been years and Spotify have never bothered to fix it. Just a simple rename of the language pack would solve it for everybody, so I don't know why it's been left like this for literaly years.
So depending on the default language (locale) of your Windows system, this may be causing the blank screen.
