My Question or Issue

Hi. I'm having a problem with Spotify desktop app randomly going silent during a song. It happened a few months back and again recently, and then again today. It goes silent for a few seconds or more, then back to normal.

I tried deleting the cache in AppData\Local\Spotify\Storage and installed the update that was available, but then it happened again with the first song I listened to, I tried pausing and replaying, got the 'Spotify can't play current track' error, before it began playing again.

Any suggestions?

Hey there @Mattspots1

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

First up, it's well worth running a clean reinstall to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble. This one is more thorough than the usual one. After that, make sure to download the app again from the Microsoft Store

If this doesn't do the trick, we suggest that you try clearing your host files on your PC following these steps.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I did a clean re-install yesterday and I've listened to a couple of albums today and it seems OK so far, I'll keep an eye on it though and let you know if that's sorted it.

Is the Spotify app from the Microsoft store different to the one from the Spotify website? I downloaded it from the Spotify site yesterday, is there a difference?

Thanks again.

Hi @Mattspots1,

Thanks for trying and keeping in touch.

We're glad to know that everything is running as it should 🙂

The Microsoft Store version is slightly different as it's specially designed to run in Windows. Apart from the integration with the Windows game bar, the app and features from both versions are the same.

Have a good one!
