When using Desktop Spotify, I cant switch audio outputs

Recently since ive had headphones and my optical speakers plugged into my Desktop when trying to play music through the speakers it immediatly ends the song and says to listen to this song you can import it from your music library, although i cant seem to be able to reliably recreate the issue atm. Similarly yesterday i had the same issue with swapping from my speakers to my headphones, started up the webplayer and it worked fine swapping between the 2. Does spotify have some firmware that doesnt let it swap output devices?

this is on Windows 10 and with a premium account, my current solution is having an old phone plugged into a different output of the speakers so i can listen to music, this is not ideal.
