Windows volume up/down keys do not work when spotify has focus

Windows volume up/down keys do not work when spotify has focus

On Win7 Pro 64-bit.

They don't affect neither the Spotify volume nor the global Windows volume. (I'd prefer the latter, plz.)

Hey folks,

thanks for posting on the Community!

From your reports it seems this issue comes and goes for some of you. We can take a closer look again, but could you please share a video recording of what happens? You can send a link to it or attach it using the Insert Video option in the post editor.

This might be dependent on the drivers that are responsible for your media keys, as those are separate from Spotify. If those were updated recently that might explain the change in behavior. We'll deep dive once we get more info from you.

Cheers!

Getting the same effect on WP8.1 (Lumia 520). C'mon devs! It's a shame that you let this bug affect so many premium users! This isn't what I've payed for!! Should I get back to Deezer just because the lack of the volume knob!!

Hey folks, I've moved this from the Ideas board as it's actually an issue we're looking into. If we have any updates on this we will post here.

Thanks for bringing your feedback to the Spotify Community.

Thanks Meredith - the issue now appears to be gone for me as of version 1.0.1.1060.gc75ebdfd

Was previously occuring with the hardware volume controls on my Clevo laptop and the media keys on my desktop PC (both Win7 x64)

Well it only took 3 years to fix !! (who on earth decided a bugfix was an "idea")

As cool as the new fancy social media API lyrics features and super-personalised adverts are that you guys are focusing on, I think most users would appreciate a stronger emphasis on prompt bug fixing by the devs - some of us just want to be able to listen to our music with the luxury of a volume control 🙂

As you can see from the other comments, silly bugs like this is actually what you would lose customers over, not the absence of Musixmatch integration - I know I was about to switch...

Congratulations on fixing this bug, it is much appreciated.

I'm using Spotify on Widows 7 64bit and Spotify keeps lowering the volume when I do stuff in Firefox. How do I deactivate this very annoying feature? I can't find an option in the settings.

For me this feature woked fine until some days ago. Now in the last version of Spotify I'm experiencing the same issue you reported.
This is so annoying. I need to focus another window just to adjust the volume.
No other application does this, just Spotify, i'm so angry about it that I'm thinking in change my music app.

Same problem here, appeared in the last week..

Windows 7, 64 bit and same thing happened to me recently. My dedicated volume control knob on my keboard does not work when spotify window is in focus.

Seriously annoying. I have tried a fresh install with the latest version..... no luck.

This is happening again..? it was once fixed, but it is doing it again. This is really making me angry.

Spotify is much better when the volume knob works.  Once it's unbroken, let's keep it fixed this time.

This issue has definitely come back for me as well. Seems like something in the new update made it all wonky again.

Please, started to happen to me also. Windows 10. When spotify has focus, the volume knob of my keyboard does nothing... but I minimize the application and it works fine.

bump, happening to me win 10 X64

I hope they fix this soon.

I thought about this after I posted before. I use a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. The mapping on that causes my problem; I say, but is there is a problem with Window's or Spotify's key mapping? I can't conclude it is a software issue. There are I offer, a number of third party key mappers which would solve this if it isn't a software issue. My Logitech has conjoining SetPoint and Unifying software and I am coming from thier support      service and I am headed back to install that. Hope the rest of you listeners the best of luck.

P;S:This is also testable using Linux. I anybody want's to try that.

I updated my spotify and this works now.

Yup, latest update has seemed to fix this issue!

Just an update, this is still a problem in 2018 on Windows 10

I just installed Spotify for the first time a couple of hours ago, and I can't change the volume with my keyboard OR with my mouse in the systray.  The only way to change the volume is in the actual Spotify app itself. It is at 100%, and isn't very loud.

>>> NEVERMIND. I switched sound settings from "Spacial Sound (off)" to "Windows Sonic for Headphones". It worked, but sounded weird. So I switched it back, and now it works correctly.

That same problem kept repeating. I ended up exiting Spotify on Win 10  for an unrelated problem (they kept playing an ad with country music), and I went back to WinAmp.  But when I would do Vol +/-, it kept showing me a "Spotify" window beside the volume level indicator, so I uninstalled.  I don't need faulty software on my brand new PC.
