[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

My prediction:

  • This thread is going to be locked.
  • The last post is going to be from a Spotify employee. It will ignore almost all of the points being raised. It will include an explanation of the lock screen and pull-down controls, as though we are all idiots who didn't already know about that.
  • Any further complaints on this forum will be immediately locked as "duplicates."

I'm basing this on, you know, exactly their response after the new library UI complaints.

Seriously... Didn't have a bad word to say about Spotify until this debacle. I just can't get my head round the thought process. Likely to cancel my subscription as a result of this. Annoyed that I have to get used to a different product cos the perfect one decided to downgrade itself. Doesn't. Make. Sense..

We need the widget back!

I use it every day!

Notifications don't give the same function as as the widget!

Brossard76

well, I did it... I cancelled my premium account and downgraded my evaluation in Google Play to one star. After I suscribed to Tidal.

All the others have a widget (Tidal, Deezer, Apple music, Google music...) but Spotify is innovating f*** up their costumers. Thank you, because your decision make me know another platforms.

Bye Spotify, you were cool but not now

This a really daft move. Loads of users loved the widget. Something as simple as a poll on FB / Twitter would have shown how important it is to users. Please look into returning it. Your inability to research before actioning should not become our issue.

I don't understand why you would remove a widget. Is it a problem just having it available? In that case; how/why?

I use Spotify all day long, and always with the widget as my starting point. Just bring it back 🙄

I, like others here I'm sure, have been with Spotify for a long time. We've pushed friends, family, coworkers, and anyone who would listen toward the platform. Now, after years of using the app across multiple phones, you're removing the widget, with no discernable reason? It makes no sense. And the best we get from you is a middle finger?

Most of the early adopters of this platform likely came from the days of vast libraries of pirated music. We're talking gigs of music when it took an hour to download an album of 12-songs. Now, I'm not trying to romanticize our illicit activities of yesteryear but what Spotify and other streaming apps did was give us music -- music we wanted, when we wanted it -- at an affordable price point.

Back then you listened to your customers and did your best to provide features and options that people wanted. Now you're just greedy or lazy or both. It comes at a time when music streaming services are abundant and plentiful, most hosting the same feature set for near the same prices. Losing the widget isn't just about losing something people want and used, it's about driving a wedge between your customers and your services. What incentive does any paying Spotify customer have to stay with you when your app updates rip features from them?

It's clear to me, based on your cavalier attitude toward customer feedback on display here, that in a world with options abound, you are fine saying, "f**k you," to a large portion of your user base. Nothing sets you apart anymore in this "sea" of music streaming options, so why poke holes in your boat?
