Normal window behavior

Spoty ignores standard windows window behaviour and this makes it one of the few progrrams i use that just dont seem to want to work along with the standard.

if i drag the spotify to the top of the screen it should maximize like any normal application does.

if i drag a maximized spotify away from the top of the screen it should shrink down to the old size and alow for being dragged around.

windows key + left or right should resize the screen to half the screen and put it in the correct spot,

windows key + up should maximize spotify.

its all standard windows 7 behaviour and should be supported (when you work with 2 monitors like me its very handy if programs just behave correctly)

We're happy to announce that we've implemented this with the latest version of Spotify. Desktop version 0.9.6. is currently in the process of rolling out so be on the lookout for the update. Thanks everyone and keep the ideas coming!

Totally agree - this is one of the most annoying "bugs" with Spotify. Please fix it someone! I'm using 3 screens, and it always shows up on the left screen. I wanna move it to the far right (habit ;)) , but the Win+Arrow won't work! I have to shrink it, then drag over manually. Got ideal 😞

One of the most annoying behaviours! Needs to be adapted to the standard Windows behaviour asap.

This still needs to be fixed.

  • Close button should close the application (need an option to disable system tray icon)
  • Alt-F4 should close the application (currently it minimizes the application to taskbar, which is really strange)
  • Windows Key + up, down, left or right should inherit native Windows behavior.
  • Dragging the spotify window to any edge of the screen should perform default behavior.

These shortcomings are particularly aggravating on Windows 8. Switching into "desktop mode" is already a bit of a realm shift... forcing users to dig into the system tray to do something simple like exit the application is more annoying.

I would rather see extra functionality in the jump list or hover menu from the taskbar itself. System tray icon use is a pretty dated idea. It was big in Windows XP days, before taskbar grouping was handled effeciently. Some people may still like the system tray, but nowadays if you force your users to use the system tray, it makes the software look and feel very dated.

This is a huge annoyance to me as well. I use Aero Snap constantly due to having numerous applications open at once, but every time I attempt to snap Spotify to an edge it does not work. From what I can tell, I believe this was a design decision for consistency in the window styling for both Windows and Mac versions. I feel that this is the wrong decision due to the fact that by doing this you are bypassing built in features of the OS the application is designed for. Please consider using Windows UX guidelines as it will give users the best experience. By the way, I use Windows 8 (desktop mode) and Mac OS 10.8 equally and believe that using the guidelines implemented by each OS in question is definitely the best solution because the OS's are different for a reason, use each to their strengths.

Ok,

I found a partial solution to the issue! As long as the Spotify Window is not maximized then use

'Shift'+'Win-Key'+'Arrow left/right'

This will send the application to the screen left/right of the current screen. It does not work with the maximized Spotify application window though. But at least something.

It's been a year since the original post. Windows 8 has been released. WHY THE DUCK ISN'T THIS STUPIDITY FIXED YET.

Aerovistae

Why hasn't this been addressed? It's one of my least favorite things about Spotify.

Whilst we're here. Why do we need a minimize and close key that both do the same thing? When I click close, every other program closes. why not you?
