Add support for Android TV

Android TV is Google's latest take on Android for the TV and is released with Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The first device running Android TV is Google's own device Nexus Player.

The good thing with Android TV is that it runs regular Android apps with some modifications and it also has built in support for Google Cast.

Long term Spotify user now with a new Sony Android TV. Has all the apps I need except for a true Spotify app. Would be controlling from a phone or tablet as often as the remote so a full app with Connect or Chromecast support is the best of all, but an SC and/or Chromecast receiver will be a start.

You can install Spotify on Android TV downloading the apk from the Play Store using an Firefox / Chrome extension.
Then copy the apk on TV via USB pendrive or other ways and install it.
The controls are not comfortable, but better than nothing. 🙂

@Dave83 I think you meant alternative options like emma+ or spotify tv. Both are third party apps that were built using the spotify api. I think in the past posts they talked about one of them. Yeah they can be used on the NP but both have limitations and there is nothing like having an official app for spotify on any device.

No, is possible install original Spotify on Android TV.

You need use APK Downloader for Chrome/Firefox, download the apk, copy on Android TV, enable the Unknown Sources and install it 🙂

Alright that was easy. Just download the APK and install it right away. Spotify works smooth but you have to struggle with the portrait orientation and the navigation, otherwise, Spotify Connects works great and you can pretty much control it with the smartphone. So this proves that it should be very easy to make an Android TV version, right?!!!. just a couple of fixes and it will be grea for tv!. We need even more Kudos for this idea, come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very strange that they support Chromecast but not the Nexus Player....
