[Alexa] Multiple Spotify Accounts for Amazon Echo

My wife and I have our own Spotify accounts. On Amazon Echo, you can create your own profile.  It would be great to link your own Spotify account to your own Amazon Echo account.

Thanks!

Hey @rskyles thanks for bringing your idea to the Community. As this idea involves a third party we cannot comment on whether this feature is in progress or not. We're marking it as 'Not Right Now', but if we publicly announce this feature is coming we'll update this idea. Thanks!

There is no "fix" only work arounds.

Having posted my own work around a good few years back and the fact this is still being debated today only highlights the issue that this pisses a lot of people off and that work-arounds and Spotify's lack of and recent response on this is extremely poor customer service.

@TehWardy  I don't expect Amazon to do anything.

The Spotify Alexa skill is provided by Spotify.

Amazon does pass information about the voice profile to skills.

Spotify should improve their skill to use one Spotify account per profile (not Amazon account).

In the status update @rskyles said this depends on a 3rd party and therefore no timeline can be provided, as written above the 3rd party (Amazon) delivered their part, the ball is in Spotifies court now.

The actual problem(s) I want to get solve are:

  • I don't want my playlists / suggestions messed up by music other persons in the household are listening too.
  • I don't want that the playback I started on an Echo is stopped because some other member of my household (> 2 persons!) is starting playback on another Echo device.

Switching Amazon accounts on the Echo is not a solution, not even a completely usable workaround because:

  • It works only for two accounts.
  • Wrong accounts will be used constantly because somebody forgot to switch.
  • Using multiple accounts in one household just does not work well.

Suggested solution (similar to what antonh1 wrote):

Every Alexa voice profile (of an Amazon Alexa account) can be associated with an individual Spotify account.

It would be also nice to use a default Spotify account (associated with the Amazon account) in case the voice profile does not have an individual Spotify account associated.

I am considering to create a new idea to get some attention by Spotify and to capture the actual problem I ans presumably many still complaining are trying to solve...

TehWardy
For that the Echo would need to support voice profiles and thus "know" who
the user is.
As per my previous comment ... this is an Amazon Issue, once solved there
are some usability issues on spotify's side too.

TehWardy, Echos do support voice profiles and there is an API for skills to make decisions based on the current voice profile since more than a year. See https://developer.amazon.com/de/blogs/alexa/post/1ad16e9b-4f52-4e68-9187-ec2e93faae55/recognize-voic...

It probably was a different situation when this whole idea started, but 2021 it's just ridiculous to not leverage the voice profiles for a service like Spotify Family.

@TehWardy

There is no fix for this problem. Only workarounds if all people have separate Amazon accounts.

I want to use a kids account I have setup on Spotify - i.e. has explicit filter turned on.

Then I want to easily switch Spotify accounts on Alexa

For example. - in the day - use the kids Spotify account - at night - use adult account.

If Spotify Alexa integration allows easily switch of accounts - i.e. Multiple Spotify accounts for Amazon Echo (the title of this issue) - this is Spotify issue not amazon

TehWardy
You don't switch spotify accounts is the point you switch Amazon accounts.
The idea is that both companies want people licenced as individuals.

If the Echo was smart enough it should as a built in feature of the device
switch to your amazon account whenever you speak, I believe the google mini
is a lot better in this regard.
In doing so that would solve your complaint about it being clunky.

The fact is though it's not hard to tell the Echo "Echo, switch accounts
and play my music".
so whilst you may not agree that it's convenient enough for you this does
work, I use it all the time without issues.

It took us a while to get used to it though as sometimes I would be
streaming to my work PC at the office then my Wife would start streaming
music on the Echo at home not realising which account the echo was on.

IMO This is not a spotify issue, it's an Amazon one.

Having the same problem with my new Echos 4th generation I see that there is no update on this since 2017... Has there really been no progress since then?

impuls

Actually the infrastructure on Amazon-side has been created only a year ago.

The Spotify account could be switched automatically based on the Alexa voice profile.

I tried to capture that in a new idea: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Idea-Submissions/Amazon-Alexa-One-Spotify-Account-per-Alexa-Voice-P...

@TehWardy this was an Amazon issue 1 year ago, but it is not anymore.

The approach skills (like the Spotify skill) are supposed to implement is to personalize based on the voice profile and not the Amazon account.

TehWardy
If it requires Spotify to do something to support the profiles (anything at
all) Amazon **bleep** up.

Por qué en pleno 2021 Spotify no permite reproducir en varios dispositivos y por qué no asocian de una vez el perfil de voz a la cuenta personal de Spotify?

Les gusta que la gente los sustituya por Amazon Music?
