[All Platforms] Cloud Files

Today we have 'Local files' that allow us to include, well, local files in our playlists etc. And this works well on my local machine. But as I have a home machine, work machine, my phone and my wife's phone these files are not available across them all. So I would love to see a 'Cloud files' feature. 

Cloud files would allow me to upload/sync my local music online (either to Spotifys own servers or using a 'hook' to Apple/Google/others) and then those files would be equaled to music provided by Spotify.

I would clearly pay extra for this option (30 NOK pr. month?).

Yes, totally agree. The unability to easily play own MP3s from the Spotify UI on all devices is my #1 pain in the a**.  Some comments:

- No, having music in personal cloud storage is no problem legally, as long as you don't share the files without permission.

- No point for Spotify to create a cloud of their own. Team up with one or more of the existing cloud providers and make Spotify talk to those clouds.

- A solution where you have to sync all your MP3s to every device's local disk (like Dropbox or OneDrive) is not really working in practice. We want to stream directly from the cloud storage when playing. (Have a look at Younited, easy to have stuff in the cloud but not on every connected device.)

- It is possibly to make a really smooth user experience if Spotify indexes every users' personal MP3s usig embedded metadata and shows the result in searches just like Spotify's own content.

Deezer does it, Google does it. Spotify doesn't. Why? Between these three services Spotify has even the smallest music library.

 Yes plleeeaassee add this! Google Music does it, iTunes does it... finally I'd be able to listen to all your missing content on my phone!

This would be possible, simple, and free if you setup a Dropbox synced folder and point Spotify's local music directory to that folder. The thing about a pure cloud implementation is that you are limited by connectivity. For some instances (i.e. my wireless-only tablet), the Dropbox solution would be much better. The downside with that obviously is that you are limited to the storage capabilities of your device.

That being said I'm definitely thinking about migrating to Google Play Music since they offer a lot of cloud storage for music. If spotify were to expand with this, I wouldn't even be thinking about it because Google's apps have become so fricking unreliable and loosey goosey. But there's so much cutting edge music (esp. remixes/mashups/free releases/youtube or soundcloud-only ) that just won't make it onto spotify and I haven't been keeping up on it as much since I started relying on Spotify primarily.

This would be a solution for our band to share our own songs we recorded, for practice purposes. I could imagine myself making a playlist, and only the people I share a link with can listen to it. Maybe with a maximum number of users, so there could hardly be a problem with music rights.

I haven't read the whole conversation string so maybe this has been mentioned already but if not then, How About...

To keep Spotify from having the technical and legal battles needed to create a cloud for each user to upload their own music files, why not just modify/enhance all Spotify device Apps and the web interface so that all of them can access local device storage to import songs into a Spotify list that could be coupled with the Spotify subscription contents and allow creation of playlists that are a hybrid of both the local and Spotify music files.

We as users would be responsible for ensuring our devices contained the local music files storage and the files we want integrated into the hybrid local files/Spotify playlist and Spotify would for little additional coding programming make millions of users even happier with their service's dynamic capabilities.
On top of that, further enhance the Spotify App experience by following Rhapsody's lead and enabling multiple device access for an additional cost, so that I could listen to my Spotify while mowing the lawn and my wife could listen while cleaning house and my son could listen while doing the 'kid' stuff, all at the same time. Another stellar enhancement and customer pleaser for just a little coding and authentication model change...!

Please consider making these happen!

Just adding my $.02 to say this is the ONE reason I would leave spotify. The ONLY reason I didn't leave yet is because spotify is the most multiplatform (sonos, logitech, TV, phone, etc). 

The moment I've got Google play or something else playing on my hifi through something like sonos/logitech I'll jump ship permanently. I would unhesitatingly stay forever with no reason to leave if there was cloud storage, because spotify in general has the best user experience/interface.

Not implementing this as priority one is imho a huge mistake.

E.G. Google Play Music and Deezer do it this way ... why not spotify????

At the ,mo,ment going through google's catalog and debating switching over if it has enough of what spotify has since it includes this feature.
