[All Platforms] Customize Start Screen

This is not a new idea, but I haven't found any practical reply to it, so I think it needs to be repeated. I completely agree with Rennestein (screen capture below), we need to stop seeing irrelevant suggestions because it is annoying. Why can't it be possible to decide what we first see when we open Spotify on any device? (playlists, recently played, artists we're following, etc), and enjoy better our Spotify experience?
Please Spotify, let us have the home screen as we'd like. :)) Thank you!

Hey folks,

We appreciate you sharing your feedback on the Community and showing your support to this idea.

We're setting this idea to 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement. If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Update from the 23rd of Feb 2023:

A new feature was recently introduced in the mobile app which you may find interesting as it allows users to remove content recommendations from the subfeeds (Music and Podcasts & Shows) of their Home screen, thus expanding upon the current customization options and offering a improved, more personalized experience. You can find more info about it in the Status update here.

Thanks.

I seriously cannot believe that this is still a problem to this day. We are requestig such a simple thing as well; it's not like it's a complete redo of the home screen. I have never seen such an incompetent billion dollar company, and they usually all are.

Also, the simple fact that three different people working for Spotify that have replied to this thread and still nothing has been done yet after almost a year and a half is baffling. Honestly, please improve as a corporation; you suck!

Relying on the IP to determine the language is very naive. Perhaps the user is on vacation in a foreign country! Please don't interfere with the language. So-called help is not always welcome.

This just can’t be true.

I have hanged on with spotify through all the force feed of podcasts (I have never listened to a podcast, because I don’t want to) and force feed of third class hip-hop (some shitty hip-hoppers named as for example Rainbow, Dio, The Cult, Cream, White Lion, Sanctuary, Eclipse and so on and on… have filled my Release Radar, because there has been no way to block a whole hip-hop genre which I hate from the bottom of my heart), but after the last main page update with force feed of loud videos blasting to my face, my cup poured over. And yep, the dislike button has never worked in Release Radar, the same **bleep** returns next week. And still unable to remove the podcasts.

Ability to customize the main page? No way. That would block the force feeding, which probably is meant to fill spotify’s pockets.

Just hypothetically, if I liked well-made adult movies with skinny blondes, this is the same thing as force feeding me amateur videos of brunette chubbies. Technically that may be what some people like, and yes, it might also be that this is where the money flow is, but it doesn’t mean that those turn me on. No, those do not.

It’s a darn time consuming job to convert all Spotify playlists to Apple Music, but after spending the whole weekend doing that, I’m almost done. This family account is just about to be cancelled, and it would require a miracle to get it back.

I’m 100% sure that you guys in Spotify are loving it.

Yes please! Most importantly: let users switch off the sound (even if I press the Mute button, the next time I open Spotify, it just starts playing the first suggested song again; very annoying if you accidentally open Spotify on your phone while your somewhere where you're not supposed to play music!).

The arrogance with which this new update has been introduced (and any comments from users who don't like it are muted/censored) is disgusting. I doubt any users were asked their opinion about it.

I received this new update and immediately rolled back with the help of Apkpure. I'm looking into alternative services as there are many with even better sound quality. Spotify is completely ignoring it's users. I'm out.

The music/podcast suggestion algorithm is designed to offer personalized recommendations based on what a user listens to at specific times during the day. The algorithm takes into account the user's listening habits during the morning commute, afternoon, workout sessions, and evening to identify patterns and preferences.

Using this data, the algorithm generates a list of recommended music and podcast content and brings them to the top of the user interface on a Spotify app.

There has been wide spread pushback to the updates to the mobile app UI. Allowing users to customize the home screen and add elements similar to the older UI would allow for dissatisfied users to make their desired changes.

It is about time that the company starts giving users (and actually paying subscribers) some control over their subscription instead of shoving at them content they don't want.

My case is that my children (8 and 11) using my Spotify account because Spotify Kids is not available in my country. Basically due to wrong tagging they ended up on a **bleep**-BDSM very crude podcast because it was (and is still despite several notification to spotify) labelled as 'history' - and appears next to history for children programs. So basically, This BDSM podcast is the first thing showing up on my (PAID!) account. In addition, I have turned explicit content off - but the app is designed in such a perverse way that it is way easier to remove the explicit content filter than to instate it (try it yourself) - I believe this is a dark pattern made on purpose, not an oversight.

I think this is really appalling from a company that wishes to portray itself as user-friendly, child and privacy caring (reason why spotify kids was made - and is being charged almost twice the regular premium fee). Why are there no efficient parental controls by default (for instance AT LEAST A PASSWORD TO ENABLE EXPLICIT CONTENT) ?

A shame.

Dear Spotify, you just cured headache with lobotomy. This card interface is **bleep**in unusable. Although I appreciate the effort to do suggestions more tailored, what is this TikTok styled abomination? Doesn't my attention span deserve more than ONE **bleep**in thing at a time??

This topic has SO MUCH ACTIVITY compared to all of the other posts... Users clearly want to be able to customize their homescreen.

ME TOO!

For example, audiobooks! I am sick and tired of seeing the preview-only audiobooks taking over "Good Afternoon/Morning" section of the Home screen. They aren't even purchased, and I'm definitely not going to buy the audiobook when the preview confirmed I DON'T want it. That "Good Afternoon/Morning" section used to contain at least some useful playlist buttons, these audiobook previews literally push the few playlists I want off the home page!!!

And the podcasts?! There is precisely one podcast I listen to. It is simply an NPR show which I know from years of hearing it on the radio. But the simple fact that I use a podcast means my homepage is populated by a despicable spread of awful "financial self help" and "investment advice" pundit podcasts. I. Don't. Care. They make me absolutely mad. These **bleep** suggestions take up a lot of home-screen space, which could be used for artists similar to my music tastes or relevant quick-play buttons.

Sometimes I wonder what my $10 a month goes to. Joe Rogans, millionaire artists, and hedge funds... probably? I listen to none of them. I wish the artists I actually listened to got a livable amount from my subscription fee.
