[All Platforms] Customize Start Screen

This is not a new idea, but I haven't found any practical reply to it, so I think it needs to be repeated. I completely agree with Rennestein (screen capture below), we need to stop seeing irrelevant suggestions because it is annoying. Why can't it be possible to decide what we first see when we open Spotify on any device? (playlists, recently played, artists we're following, etc), and enjoy better our Spotify experience?
Please Spotify, let us have the home screen as we'd like. :)) Thank you!

Hey folks,

We appreciate you sharing your feedback on the Community and showing your support to this idea.

We're setting this idea to 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement. If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Update from the 23rd of Feb 2023:

A new feature was recently introduced in the mobile app which you may find interesting as it allows users to remove content recommendations from the subfeeds (Music and Podcasts & Shows) of their Home screen, thus expanding upon the current customization options and offering a improved, more personalized experience. You can find more info about it in the Status update here.

Thanks.

With my favorite band ripping the eir entire catalog from your platform, now would be a bad time to annoy the **bleep** out of me.

📌Why this matters

Right now, the Spotify Home page offers many artist-based mixes and radio stations, but:

  • Users don’t get clear orientation — what to listen to right now
  • Music is presented without context: mood, time of day, or activity
  • Playlists often mix unrelated emotions and genres — making it hard to tell if the music fits the moment

This reduces usability and makes the listening experience feel random or unfocused.

Proposal

Add two dedicated and persistent sections to the top of the Home page — just like what’s already available in YouTube Music and Apple Music:

🎭By Mood

  • Energetic
  • Relaxed
  • Romantic
  • Nostalgic
  • Inspired
  • Melancholic

🏃‍♂️ By Activity

  • Driving
  • Working / Studying
  • Workout
  • Morning routine
  • Housework
  • Walking / commuting

These sections can leverage Spotify’s existing personalization systems (like Mixes or DJ), but should appear as clear, structured entry points — always accessible and visible on Home.

🌟User Benefits

Fast and relevant music selection based on real-life situations

Better and more intuitive personalization

A clearer, smarter Home interface

A daily experience that matches how people actually live and listen

🟢 Why it makes sense

People don’t just pick music by artist — they pick by mood and activity

This model is already proven effective on other platforms

Spotify already has the content — it just needs better presentation

📣This idea enhances the current personalization system and makes Spotify smarter, more helpful, and more aligned with real-world user needs.

Not implementing this feature (which is probably easy) actually reduces how often I use Spotify. It feels like Spotify is publicly displaying your browsing and listening history. This lack of control means I often have to turn to other platforms for certain content, or worse, consider switching to a different service entirely. I shouldn’t need to juggle multiple apps just to keep my listening habits private. Having full control over recommendations and the ability to curate my feed shouldn’t be this complicated, especially when privacy should be a given.

There seem to be very few recommendations for features like this, and I don’t understand why it's so hard to implement. I don’t want people seeing EVERYTHING I listen to, or what I may have listened to recently—especially when someone asks to borrow your phone to choose songs, or when you go into your car or use shared devices like a smart speaker. I don’t want people seeing my recommendations. For instance: romance/erotic audiobooks, podcasts on sensitive subjects like mental health (or ones that might be judged, like Joe Rogan), or random creators I might only listen to for self-soothing or falling asleep, like ASMR or sleep music. It can honestly make it extremely uncomfortable or embarrassing.

When I’m at home or visiting family, I don’t want them accidentally seeing my recent listening history, whether it's a podcast about a topic that’s uncomfortable to discuss, or a book I don’t want anyone judging. It feels like my Spotify account is constantly open to scrutiny. Even when I’m on the train or at work, I don’t want someone glancing at my phone and seeing that I was listening to something I’d rather keep private. Spotify doesn’t give me the option to manage this in a way that makes sense for everyday use.

Or maybe you don’t want people knowing you listen to certain music. There should be an option to "Hide from Home Screen" AND "Remove from Recommendations" which also hides it from the home screen but ensures it won’t show up in recommendations either. Having my entire feed public like this doesn’t make me feel safe or in control of my content.

Another option that would make a big difference is the ability to customize your default home screen. For example, I should be able to choose whether my home screen only shows music or includes music and podcasts. That way, if I only want music recommendations, I don’t have to see podcast suggestions I’m not interested in, or worse, feel awkward about certain sensitive topics being shown. A customizable default view would give users much more control over the content they see regularly.

And no, I don’t want to have to use Private Session every time. When I step into my car and Spotify automatically connects (which I like), I don’t want my passenger seeing that I was listening to an erotic novel...

It’s exhausting having to constantly manage my listening with workarounds. The Private Session feature is great, but I don’t want to have to remember to turn it on every time I use Spotify, especially when it’s just a small, awkward moment that could be easily avoided with a simple ‘hide this’ button. It’s frustrating that Spotify doesn’t consider the inconvenience of managing content and privacy.

What does this mean? It means I need to use other platforms to listen to certain content, or it makes me consider changing platforms altogether. I shouldn’t have to juggle multiple apps just to keep my content private. Having full control over recommendations and being able to curate my feed shouldn’t be this complicated, especially when privacy is at the core of it.

It would be great if we could pin more than 4 items, as well as pin podcasts. Currently it is very hard to pickup where you left off on podcasts after switching to music. It would be nice if there were almost 2 spotifys one podcasts one music. Or on your home page you could continue where you left off. It would be nice if you could customize your home screen

Hi  there  ,its impossible to delete recently played items.   when something that we don't want others to see is seen by others that is extremely embarassing so its my request have a option to delete recently played . I would have deleted the account if didn't had premium .

Yummi

Also you have to mark a private session that just least for 6 hours. Maybe I don’t want even my followers to see what I am listening. That’s my own business.
so please, give us the chance to delete or keep in privacy what we are listening.
My kids are allowed to use my account too. So of course sometimes there are things not made for their ears.

i love using spotify, but when i open it, i have to manually go to the music tab every time. users should be able to choose what to see when we open the app or site. i always see audiobooks and podcasts, which i don't want to see. i only want to see music. please make an optional setting available so that when i open the app, it opens to the music tab. thank you.

Most people I know use Spotify for one thing, music.

It would be a good thing if we could select what content we want to see/hide.

This needs to be a thing
