[Amazon Echo] Alexa controls via Spotify Connect

There should be a way for any Echo to control a remote spotify connect.

say my speaker that has spotify connect and is playing Elvis. I should be able to use any Echo to change that remote speakers playlist, song, artist etc. The new playlist, song, artist etc will start be playing on that remote spotify connect but controlled by any Echo.

Hey folks,

We’re always working on improving the Spotify experience across platforms, but we’re afraid we don’t have any further information to share at the moment.

We typically don't announce integrations with third parties in advance. The best place to keep an eye on is our blog for news updates about any such partnerships.

Thanks for continuing to share your ideas and give us feedback in our Idea Exchange.

That would be a really awesome feature.

What does the status ("Not right now") means?

Can I expect, this will be done shortly?

This would be a great feature (and on Google Assistant). Sad Spotify isn't implementing.

What about just allowing the control of the desktop version of Spotify? That would open up a lot of options when it comes to playing audio out through a third party D/A Interface..

Hey guys,

This idea sounds amazing ,to the point where i'll only buy an echo once i know it'll work.

What I dont understand is if you can easily connect to another device through any of your available UIs (mobile app, pc app, etc), why can't that same ability be achieved via Alexa's voice UI (skill), independently of your connect partners?

like, instead of the list of available devices seen in the app, alexa can list available devices by reading their names, and then u just choose which one to connect to by saing its name instead of taping/clicking.

This could potentially revolutionise how music is enjoyed when using Spotify through Alexa. Surely this should be given some priority?

I've come to vote for this as well.

While it is a bit clunky (explained below) than something built in there is a Skill for this called `Connect Control for Spotify`. I've used it and it works quite well. The overwhelming negative reviews seems to be for people who don't understand what Spotify connect does. It even supports moving between devices but I think that is also very clunky and don't use that functionality.

Clunky because you can't say "Alexa, next" but instead have to say "Alexa, ask Connect Control for Spotify to next". Skills in general are very clunky because they don't support aliasing or hiding inside a routine.

Spotify,

Please, please implement this.  I have a high end home audio with an amp that has spotify connect built in - i don't want to listen to spotify on the Echo Dot speaker!

It's not difficult - it's been implemented by some kind soul in few hundred lines of code already, the problem being is that because it's not native to the Spotify skill you have, it's clunky to use - but it works and is useable.

Or, how about open source your skill and accept some pull requests - everyone wins!

Finally - I don't agree with your reasonsing for setting this as 'not right now'. This has little to do with 3rd party integrations.  Spotify connect can be controlled from Spotify, as shown in the above skill.  It can be implemented in your skill, with no need to interface directly with the 3rd party integration.  For this reason i request this feature be taken out of 'not right now'.

Clicked through all the comments after reading the 'update' about the Sonos intgeration (not interested) and was looking for a reason why it's down to 3rd parties when it's all funneled via Spotify Connect.

This, combined with flaky Chromecast support is pushing me away from the platform - features like this just never seem to get developed. I wonder has anything raised on these forums ever been implemented for reason other than Spotify were going to do it anyway.

Spotify,

I would like to second the request above. Please implement this.  I also have a high end home audio, but with an Arcam Rplay streamer that uses DTS PlayFi and Spotify Connect.

Amazon Music to Echo - works.

Amazon Music to Rplay via Echo - works.

Spotify to Echo - works.

Spotify to Rplay via Echo - does not work.
