[Connect] Option to deactivate Spotify Connect

I want to have the opption to turn it off. Please fix this, i wan't to listen to music and still be online without connect starts.

Please fix this.

Hey everyone,

It seems that this idea ended up in the wrong board accidentally, so we're bringing it back.

We're keeping the Not Right Now status, as we don't have any immediate plans to implement this. As soon as we have any new information to share, rest assured we'll check back in here.

Take care.

Spotify want to limit the number of devices we can use at once but don't want to say it.

Instead of just being honest, they'd rather enforce this crappy UX on us.

At least that what I assume, unless Spotify can give a reasonable answer other than that.

10 years and many people asking. This has got worse, sometimes I can't even switch devices for a few tries so it takes ages and now pausing seems to check in and takes a while too.

Today I left Spotify over this.

This seems to be a perennial request you keep ignoring, but it just angered me again so I'm making sure it's on your radar - there should be a way to turn off Spotify Connect, or whatever option is making Spotify play the same things from different devices. If I'm on my work computer, I'm listening to one type of music. If I'm on my personal computer, I'm listening to another type of music. If I'm on my phone, I'm usually listening to an audio book (which I just lost my place in because I thought I was going back to the beginning of a song on my work computer instead of the chapter). I can see some people appreciating this "feature", but I'm not one of them. Why can't it be turned off? It strikes me as something that couldn't exist without being programmed that way in the first place.

10+ years and this has been ignored. By this point it has to be deliberate. It lost you a customer Spotify. I've been a member since it was released in Australia - user data tells me 22 May 2012 was my account create date. BUT, due to this connect issue, I started using YouTube music in the car. Then thought I'd try it on desktop. Then realised that the sound quality is better. Bye bye spotify, cancelled my premium a few days ago. If you'd just actioned this when it was raised (or, heck, even some time in the next 9 YEARS) I would never have run into it and never even given YouTube music a second glance.

VicVicVicx

This is the worst "feature" I've seen on a music streaming service. I can't believe "Not Right Now" means that even after 10 years, they still haven't given paying users to the option to simply turn it off.

I'm at work listening to Spotify on my PC. Then i open an app on my Android 14 phone that starts playing sounds through the phone speakers. Since I don't want the whole office to hear my phone playing sounds loudly, i immediately turn down the volume with the volume buttons on my phone. Except... plot twist, I'm not not allowed to!! Instead of turning down the speaker volume on my phone, Spotify has hijacked my volume buttons to control the volume of my Spotify PC app. I am literally turning down the Spotify volume on my PC instead. Only way to disable this is to open my phone's settings, find the Spotify app and force stop it. But, by the time I'm back into the app that was making sounds, and I'm ready to turn the volume down on my phone speakers, Spotify has started running in the background again ready to hijack my volume buttons once more, denying me the ability to turn my phone speaker volume down. All within 2-3 seconds Spotify is back up and running after i force stopped it. All of this has to stop!! Let me be able to turn off the Spotify Connect! Let me be able to chose when i want my phone to be a Spotify remote controller, and when not! And if I'm force stopping the Spotify app, leave it off until I decide to launch the app again! I'm literally about to cancel my subscription and sign up somewhere else where they won't hijack my phone!

How about now, ten years later? It's a decent feature, IF you have a usecase for it.
In ever other situation, being forced to have to deal with this is annoying as **bleep**. Just leaving it as "nah don't wanna deal with it rn, maybe later" is really petty at this point, a decade later.

Angereduser

Very frustrating the continual refusal to even consider this. I have two devices with very different use cases that I want separate queues for. I'm not looking to use two devices at once at all. I just want the ability to hand off my listening between the two and not having to completely fix the queue. There are many reasons this may be the case (device exclusively used for running playlists, work vs. home listening vibes, Commute vs. work, etc.

Using the same network, when playing Spotify on the computer, it also shows up on the phone, but this never happened before. It seems that this issue started after a recent update. Please fix this problem

I play podcasts on my phone. I play music in my computer. If I play the podcast in my phone, the current playlist of the computer syncs with the phone, so I lose the status of my computer!!!

WHY WHY WHY!!!!

I don't want to play in two devices at the same time. I just want to keep the "current playlist, and the time-mark of the current song" (the playing status) of devices independent from each other. Your attempt of "a fluid experience" is at best crappy!

Just a "disable synced play" option in the settings would suffice.
