Too me holding off all the Apple related requests, like this one, really shows that this is a political thing for Spotify rather then a technical issue or lack of resources to be honest.

Yeah exactly @Scidd0w, this really seems to be a political thing on Spotify’s side - and a grave misjudgement if they really think they can win against Apple (i.e., that users will choose Spotify over their iPhones). Sad, really sad, but 🤷‍

@Docc, likely never. Consider the size of the Apple Homepod user base amongst the Spotify users. Just move to Apple Music.

@userKane AirPlay 2 is for a lot more devices than just HomePods.

@Spaceboy88 true, but many (if not most) non-Apple speakers would also support Spotify connect.

@userKane But AirPlay 2 is more than just sending to a speaker vs Spotify Connect. It allows for sending the audio to multiple speakers at the same time, allowing for a multi-room experience. 

The fact here is that Spotify is being spiteful and bitchy towards Apple and yet again offering a sub-par experience for its users on those platforms. It’s also the same reason that Spotify on Apple TV still feels years behind and doesn’t even have lyrics yet.

@Spaceboy88, Spotify does support AirPlay 2 but only in realtime mode. It's AirPlay 2 buffered mode that it does not support. So we can AirPlay to multiple speakers in sync, it just has that annoying 2sec lag and it ties up your device the whole time it's streaming rather than simply handing off the stream endpoint to the speaker to handle on it's own. Also, I'm not 100% sure it's political. The buffered audio player does not support OGG (maybe political on Apple's part?) which I suspect is the real reason Spotify hasn't implemented it.
