[iOS][Discover] Restore Touch Preview on iOS App

Touch preview removal on last iOS vers. update looks like it hasn't been a great idea. You are on time to restore it, one of the best Spotify features.

Updated on 2019-03-19

Hey!

Thanks for coming to the Community, and adding your vote to this idea!

This feature was originally removed from the app due to low engagement. There was a statement at the time which you can check out at https://community.spotify.com/t5/iOS-iPhone-iPad/Touch-Preview-on-iOS-removal/td-p/1857905.

We're keeping this idea as 'Not Right Now', as it's not something we have any immediate plans to add back onto the app.

If we do have any new info to share we'll check back in here with a new status.

Cheers!

It's disappointing to see Touch Preview removed from iOS, especially after the promise of its expansion to Android and other platforms. It's true that its low usage might have been due to inadequate promotion and incomplete implementation across major mobile apps. Had it been rolled out to Android as planned, more users could have discovered and appreciated its unique capabilities. Touch Preview was a standout feature that set Spotify apart, and its removal feels like a step backward. Reinstating it would be greatly appreciated by many users.

You’re a few years out on this one, there used to be a feature where you
could hold done on a song and it would preview play it, amazing feature but
Spotify removed it. I’ve been premium for years and years ##- Please type

Good news!

It's not Touch Preview, but it's very similar.

In the mobile app, you can now go into a playlist, album, or artist and you will see a little icon next to the play button. Once you tap on it, you can swipe through a feed that plays you quick previews of each song. Give it a try!

It is also rolling out now in the desktop app, so you should be seeing it there soon as well.

Thank you MattSuda for mentioning the new preview feature in playlists. I have tried it and while it’s great for quick discovery sessions it still doesn’t provide the instant feedback for any track anywhere in the UI that Touch Preview did.

It’s not often that I fondly reminisce about software feature removed from an app years ago but as someone who loves discovering new music and creating playlists the ease of using the Touch Preview still has no proper substitute.

This is the reason I left. I get apple music for free and still chose to
pay for Spotify in the hopes that they bring this feature back. But after 5
+ years of waiting, I cancelled. I have no hopes it’ll come back. But if
they do bring it back, I will absolutely be a paying customer again.
