[iOS][Discover] Restore Touch Preview on iOS App

Touch preview removal on last iOS vers. update looks like it hasn't been a great idea. You are on time to restore it, one of the best Spotify features.

Updated on 2019-03-19

Hey!

Thanks for coming to the Community, and adding your vote to this idea!

This feature was originally removed from the app due to low engagement. There was a statement at the time which you can check out at https://community.spotify.com/t5/iOS-iPhone-iPad/Touch-Preview-on-iOS-removal/td-p/1857905.

We're keeping this idea as 'Not Right Now', as it's not something we have any immediate plans to add back onto the app.

If we do have any new info to share we'll check back in here with a new status.

Cheers!

An idea that someone had on another forum was to forward all emails from this thread to [email protected] in the hopes that it gets them to perk their ears up and listen!! Might be worth a try for a good number of us do that here as well.

On a separate note, the removal of this feature, as well as the lack of an explicit filter are pushing me towards Apple Music who appear to listen to consumers and offer the same service for the same price. I’m now actively looking to switch services.

Bring back this feature

how did it not pick up?

I find it difficult to believe it had “low engagement” among users. I used the feature on a daily basis and was confused, frustrated, and then angry the day I noticed it was no longer functional. I depended heavily on that feature to preview songs when building a queue or playlist without disrupting the song or album currently playing. It was an extraordinarily useful feature and it really set Spotify apart from other products. Presently, the only way to preview a song is to just play it with the knowledge it will completely alter what you’re currently listening to or what may play next. It was also very efficient for deciding which song you wanted to play if you were looking for a specific version, edition, or arrangement. You could literally scroll through tracks and have them preview in gap-less succession until you found the exact one you wanted. Every time I use the app I hope and pray for the day the preview  function is restored.

Removed "due to low engagement rate." Its low engagement rate was only becuase it was not an obvious feature. I'm sure more people would have used it if they were aware.

I’m done. I’ve cancelled my subscription and gone to Amazon Music. I may reconsider if they reinstated it. Until then, goodbye Spotify.

I agree it was not advertised. It was a delightful surprise I discovered, but then quickly got a lot of use from. I don’t have app development experience but I wonder: was it really costing them that much to offer the feature despite what user engagement may have been?

I didn't even know about this feature until one of my friends pointed it out to me. If you guys had advertised it to all your iOS users, then there would've been a MUCH higher engagement rate. I personally love this feature and would love for you to bring it back. Previews are essential on every music platform and could even get people to listen to different music after getting a small taste of it!

Regarding cost of development, It does not have a continual cost to run. It costs one time to develop and implement and then you just leave it. If it’s buggy, you fix it a few times until it works and then you leave it alone. It has nothing to do with cost. Spotify is trying to be Apple, in that they are only putting in what they want. Spotify does HEAR their customers because I have chatted with them on Facebook, but outright and intentionally ignored them after the fact. There is a fundamental difference between simply hearing, and then fully listening and understanding.

I have spoken with them about landscape mode and this feature both and for months they keep saying “ok! We’ll make sure your voice is heard” aaaand it’s not... They do NOT care about us a single bit and as such I am contemplating moving to another platform. In fact, why bother offering customer service if you are not actually going to serve the customer? I’ve probably spent over $700 in yearly costs for the family plan spread over the last few years. So they better fix their **bleep** or I’m out. I only invest in products that work. THIS does not constitute as a working product. Working doesn’t just mean the product starts, turns on or functions as designed. Working to me means well oiled machine, tailored to The customers’ liking, that’s working. This?? No...

My suggestion? Stop posting here about it, call them and bug them once a day, every day until it’s fixed. Literally all of us need to CALL them. If we all blow up their phones enough maybe they’ll FINALLY get it.

Spotify! Quit being an airhead... you derp of a company. I could run that place singlehandedly better than any of you. **bleep**...

I hope all of you guys also give Feedback in the App Store ! Spotify currently has a 5* Rating and that’s a shame..
