[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

Please upvote this idea to garner attention for it.  Thank you Spotify and the Spotify community.  Let's get this implemented so it's ready for general iOS 14 release this September!

Please @spotify I am waiting for that support for years!! Now that Apple allows you to give that support, do it!!! I am using Apple Music only for my HomePod… on my Phone and pc i‘m still using Spotify and I want to kick out Apple Music as soon as possible!!

One day Spotify will enable HomePod support, and treat it like they are bestowing a great gift upon their users.

Oh thank you, great Spotify, for finally putting an end to your own complaints!

Hi Peter

Suggestions for possible answers are:

  1. The thread is still active ? I deactivated notifications on updates. Sry !
  2. We still need more information because it is not clear at all what the community is requesting here.
  3. Need more upvotes to be sure the community really, really wants this feature to avoid wasting precious dev capacity. - No. of upvotes required to get an update.
  4. I feel bad about ignoring you folks for so long as even my parents told me about the decency to not treat people / (paying) customers like fools. But the management is behaving like little children and told me not to answer.
  5. Add to your liking a non-empty answer :o).

Thx for any reaction !

Other possible responses:

1. We hate Apple more than we like our customers. Sorry.

2. Corporate cannot afford a HomePod to experiment on, so we don't know what to do. Sorry.

3. Our business model says Airplay 2 / HomePod undercut Spotify Connect - so we'll never support it.

4. Our one developer is on vacation and has been since March. We're not sure where they are.

5. We just don't want to. Deal with it.

6. We suggest throwing away your HomePod and buying a new system that supports Spotify Connect instead.

7. IDK my BFF Jill

8. What's a HomePod?

9. itstimetoplayfair.com wasn't us. Fake news.

10. Apple didn't enable third-party support. Also fake news.

I think it's pretty clear at this point that they're willfully ignoring this thread.

If they acknowledge it, there's no other explanation they can reasonably give other than that they don't want to implement a feature that weakens their narrative against Apple, which then exposes their priorities (trying to get concessions from Apple by complaining to the EU > happy customers)

Spotify is the standalone superior product, but if they're more worried about their beef with Apple than they are improving the experience of their customers within the Apple ecosystem, I'd rather move to Apple Music (once I get a chance to move my playlists). They may claim that's because Apple is playing the monopoly role, but that's a silly assertion considering they could easily implement this feature and I'd stay a loyal Spotify customer.

I feel the same way.  I moved away from Apple Music and now I'm thinking this was a bad idea.  I really don't understand how a thread like this could be ignored.  It's just really rude.

MrTripleB

Most likely you‘re right, but I think it might be worthwhile to draw „easily sidetracked by less discussed topics“ Peter‘s attention to this thread. Luckily, he‘s still alive !
