[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

Almost 1 year since the last status update where they said that this implementation will be considered. What a joke…

Everyone who really wants to see a change, don’t say “I will switch to another platform soon”(comment above ^^ saying “will switch to Apple Music with two accounts soon”), it doesn’t help. Do it right now. If you are still waiting, time will fly and there will be 10k votes and no implementation. Just switch to another platform if you are really upset. If you keep your subscription, doesn’t matter what you are saying or “crying” here.

As a UX Designer I can tell you those comments matter. You might not notice it but they see it. And no I can not cancel it today cause I have a bucket full of playlists here I need to transfer first.
Doesn’t matter if they get one more month money from me. When I say I‘ll leave, I‘ll do it. So instead of attacking other people who already support this thread with comments you should focus on your friends, tell everyone around you to leave Spotify. I am not crying I am supporting the thread but I also know how long some things need to change or to be implemented cause I work in such a business. I will not become a Karen just because you want me to.

Yo are like that guy from YouTube, TechLead with this "as a UX designer" thing. Then let me tell you, as a web developer, there are platforms which can help you transfer all playlists from a platform to another, just search them on google. And I didn't attacked anyone, your comment was an example. I don't care enough to attack you or to try to make you become a Karen. That's what I'm doing, I'm telling people to switch away from Spotify, but I think you didn't read my comment verry well. I already told my friends to switch away from Spotify, but it's their choice. So you "as a UX Designer", stop believing that people want to attack you. Sometimes what you say can be used an example, that's all. Chill.

Has it taken years, or several years to get this? It's starting to be a bit of a joke. But I'm absolutely no developer so I do not know how long something takes to develop. But I was a paying customer, for me it was a really long time. So I switched.

Spotify has not had a good year in my book. Censors artists differently. I'm not at all for censorship, but if you have to deal with it, I think there should be equal rules for everyone.

Was about to open a new office in Russia during an ongoing invasion. They backed down after harsh criticism from "the world". I think they did not back down because it was right, but because they were caught. Saw that they will not provide the service at all in Russia from April. An attempt to smooth over their past mistakes? Better late than never, I guess.

Recently, they bragged about how much they have paid out to artists on their platform. The only problem is that they pay the most because they are the biggest. They are not high in payout / stream. But suppose they need money for Joe Rogan and Barcelona.

Maybe not Spotify's job of policing the world. But they can do something. I'm not saying any other company is better, but now we have a chance to show them what we think.

We customers can do something. If you just want to whine but do nothing about it. Continue to fill Spotify's pockets with money. Do what you think is right.

"But, but ... my playlists ..." I understand that this is a big inconvenience for you.

Sorry, long rant.

5k!

Just popped in to see about any progress. Still nothing. Switched away from Spotify family to Apple Music a few months back since I want to be able to use my homepods with Hey Siri. Spotify is much better in playlist management and curated playlists / recommendations, but no homepod support is a no-go for me. Shame.

I'll keep monitoring the situation 🙂

Same here. I'm checking in every now and then to see whether Spotify finally got around to implementing this. Just a shame...

I've gotten used to including the AirPlay-target when using Siri on my iPhone though: "Hey Siri - Play [...] in the living room" works fine, the iPhone starts Spotify with AirPlay to the HomePods directly.

WhyDontYouDoIt

I sent another email today.

Hello.

It has been an extremely long time now that Apple has allowed third party providers to work with HomePods.

Is there any updates on this matter? Thousands of votes and replies of users on your forums apparently have not changed your opinion on this at all. We’re paying a very fair price and still can’t have a good experience with your software.

AirPlay 2 is another huge deal breaker. Why is Spotify not working on these features? Where did it go wrong that Spotify absolutely disregards features and requests their users actually prefer?

Many of us have been with Spotify for so long the only reason we’re not switching is because we have all of our playlists and songs on your platform. It’s an extremely disrespectful of Spotify to play on the “gotcha” card.

Can we please get any information regarding this.

Please listen to your users’ requests.

Thank you, best regards Mihael.

Let's see what their response will be.

WhyDontYouDoIt

Got the reply back. As usual, nothing useful. I want to use words that will get my messages removed so just imagine I'm using them in the next sentence: they're so ****** horrible and absolutely disregarding of their users' requests.

Absolute ***** because it has been YEARS.

Here is the email:

Hello Mihael,
