[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

@seldomused

not true.

The APIs for Home Pod are openly available.

It's Spotfy who don't want to use them, for whatever reason.

Not to rub salt in the wound but today Spotify started stuttering when I AirPlayed it from my iPhone to my HomePod. I believe Spotify is using AirPlay 1 tech and not AirPlay 2 tech.

On a whim, I tried a free trial of Apple Music to see if it would still stutter. The result? It did not stutter when AirPlaying Apple Music to the HomePod.

I was willing to do workarounds to keep Spotify, but stutters and dropouts are a deal breaker for me. Maybe this whole thing has something to do with Spotify getting something ready for Stream On tomorrow.

I honestly couldn’t stand the awful experience anymore and was forced to switch to Apple Music…

Spotify event “Stream On 2023” is over and not a single word about Homepod support. “Nice”.

Derte89

Yes. Not a single word about HomePod or AirPlay 2 on the event yesterday. Unbelievable. Now everybody must accept that AirPlay 2 and a HomePod integration never comes to Spotify. I was shocked after the event yesterday.

Hello @spotify team,

I have purchase a homepod recently, and to be honest, I was really surprise that you don't support HomePod ...

It's a mess 😕

Do you have a plan to support it ?

Thanks

Am I late to this thread? How can we make them listen to this request?

The_Orange_Frog
You make them listen by cancelling your subscription and joining  Music. 😁

@Luismc I think they pay more attention to Twitter than this forum
