[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

Please, dear Spotify team, give us an update on this issue.
Otherwise, I'm sure I'm not the only one who will soon be moving to Apple Music - which I really don't want to do, but there's really no way around it, since you're leaving your customers completely in the dark here.
Really not cool 😞

Not even a reply from anyone at Spotify. How sad we’ve been subscribers since 2008. I feel let down by a company I used to admire. You fell behind and you clearly don’t care about your customers. I get regular updates from this support page of people asking time and time again for native integration for the HomePod…and just silence from Spotify. How disappointing and absolutely unacceptable at this point. We are now a 6 month Apple Music subscribers and are in the process of transferring all our playlists, and that is 5 profiles we’re moving to Apple Music with our family subscription. For all of you on the same bote as us look for SongShift, an easy way to transfer all your playlists. I am beyond words. https://songshift.com

How is that possible? With all the feedback you're getting, still no native Homepod support.

Switched to Apple Music 2 months ago and I must say the grass is greener there. Soundquality is better and honestly, the algorithm is also nicer, it plays what I wanna hear. If you would have added Homepod support I would still be your customer, but you decided to be ignorant, childish and lazy. Won't see us again, bye bye

Can Spotify be more transparent about the reason for refusing to bring this simple functionality to its customers? The experience is so sub-optimal and it hurts to pay each month a premium subscription for that!!!

Having to transfer my playlists/habits to Deezer or Apple Music is a bummer but I guess this is what I will have to do.

  • @mwargnier this is actually not so hard. I used the app Playlisty to transfer all my Spotify playlists to Apple music and it went without any issues. You just select the playlists you want to transfer and it does the job for you.

I just ordered the new Homepod from Apple.

Using AirPlay will not be an option for me. Computer or phone needs to be on all the time, or in reach. This inconvenient and inefficient.

So if there will be no native HomePod support from Spotify, I will, with regrets, have to move over to Apple Music.

I don't understand Spotify's policy anyway. What's wrong with getting/retaining customers, who would otherwise go with or migrate to Apple Music ? The APIs are openly available, and I don't see a single point of concern that Spotify may have, in terms of a competitive disadvantage. Actually the opposite.

P.S. I personally don't need Siri support for the start, if that is the issue. Just playing music without having the computer or iPhone active & near all the time would be sufficient.

It’s ridiculous that this still hasn’t been implemented.

Lol. Spotify are a ridiculous company, that's why. Moved to Apple Music in 2020 because of this - they've already lost almost £300 of income from me to date and I'm not planning to go back. If I had waited around here thinking they actually cared to integrate I would have wasted 2½ years - and even I waited a while back then 😄 Apple Music is fine btw, maybe not as good in some regards but better in others. I liked Spotify, but I quickly forgot about the UI.

I hav a (naive?) hope that now that the new HomePod got announced, they will change their minds.
