[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

Yes please Spotify!!! I love spotify but this really bugs me. Why would you want to make it more difficult for your users with a homepod to listen to your music? Makes you want to switch over instead of enjoying Spotify

If Spotify had their own "HomePod" and supporting Apple's product would cannibalize their sales, I would understand.

If they had other products that would suffer from supporting Apple, I would understand.

But they have no other products.

Just a music listening app.

  • Not a single Spotify user would leave because of the support of an Apple hardware product. Those who don't use HomePod won't even notice.
  • Not a single Spotify user would suffer the tiniest disadvantage from Spotify supporting Apple.
  • But MANY  Spotify users would be happy.
  • And MANY Spotify users would remain Spotify customers, rather than moving to Apple Music.
  • And, maybe, even some Apple users who like the HomePod but would prefer Spotify over Apple Music could be convinced to move to Spotify.
  • And many potential new customers could base their decision on which service to join, on the Support of HomePod.

There is absolutely NO disadvantage for anyone, nor any potential concern that Spotify may have rightfully. Win-win. Therefore, the reasons for Spotify to not supporting HomePod can only be:

  • lazyness or
  • greed (it costs to much to develop) or
  • not understanding the circumstances or
  • lack of competency or
  • a combination of all of this.

There cannot be any other reason. In any case, it's an embarrassment for Spotify.

3 years and 151 pages of customer requests later. If there was ever any doubt that Spotify doesn't care about its users I think that should be cleared up now.

I recently picked up a set of HomePod Mini and they've been a game-changer. It's been real nice having music playing all around my home.

By the way, I'm switching over to Apple Music and discovered a helpful tool that makes it easy to move all my playlists from Spotify. Just keeping it chill and taking it easy, you know?

Hello everyone!

This is the last time I write as a Spotify member. Today I am unsubscribing from the service and the post updates.
I signed up with Spotify before my kids were born. Back then it was a cutting edge she service and a company to admire. Many copied Spotify but no company got even close to the sound quality, the UI, and the customer care provided.
As time went on and technology moved forward Apple realized there was a huge market and business opportunity to develop. They did. After the release of the original HomePod I waited years for Spotify to integrate the service natively. Did not happen. Then I found this community of customers interested in Spotify keeping up with our needs and interests. After years of posting and reading comment after comment from an innumerable amount of customers asking for answers from Spotify they should have at least responded to our suggestions, wants and needs. This demonstrated a clear lack of respect and interest. My now family plan is just a memory. We moved all our profiles to Apple Music using https://songshift.com after they finally caught up to Spotify with hardware, audio quality (now streaming ALAC  24bit/192KHz) and used their hardware for the customer’s convenience. Honestly, I also have been an Apple customer since I was a kid and they have huge faults but finally have nailed the music streaming services.
Thank you to all of you who participated in here and hope you get an answer one day about what Spotify’s plan are for the integration. Remember to keep together and respect each other’s points of view. I suspect there are participants that just want disarray and mayhem (maybe by the same persons we want answers from).
All the best to you friends!

Just a follow on from the previous user, today I have started the process of migrating to Apple Music, something I never thought I would do. So far I am very happy using Playlisty

previously I had tried using SongShift and although it worked, I found a few issues with some matching. Playlisty on the other hand seems to be doing a really good job, and is a lot more reasonably priced as well.

It looks like my days with Spotify are numbered. Having been a customer since they began it’s a hard divorce, but sometimes you can’t hang around just because it’s hard to separate.

I never comment on forums, but this is just so disappointing that I had to break my streak. I bought HomePods for every room in my house this weekend and just finished signing up for Apple Music after being with Spotify for 13 years. I'm really going to miss the interface AND the end of year wrap, but the lack of integration is just downright annoying (even after only two days) and knowing that they're purposely dragging their feet on this sealed the deal. ✌️ out, Spotify.

Having same problem. This is so disapointing.

Is spotify testing the loyalty of its fanbase?
I mean it’s algorithm is great and the wrap up is awesome but native support on HomePods and Siri is quite essential for a big target group. Don’t you think it’s a bit stu**d to ignore apple because daniels feelings are hurt? 😅

I‘ll move to Apple Music soon if you don’t fix that

Spotify has been testing their user base even before this disaster 3 years ago. Glad I moved on, Apple Music has grown on me.
