[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

@Marrekk right, I meant literally running 3rd party apps on the HomePod which is required by the Spotify Connect protocol...

As per my understanding, Spotify doesn't want to implement it. Even though I like Spotify (Premium) more than Apple Music, I am considering switching to Apple Music. I know there are not that many people with the business case as I am (or you, fellow forum readers), but still... Spotify blamed Apple for not allowing to do so, but now Spotify is not using the feature which Apple opened up. This makes me to consider the other options.

@daveThe0nly Pandora is already supported

But we don't know what is happening.

Maybe they're working on it (to somehow integrate it with Spotify connect)

Maybe they don't care

Maybe it's not possible

But the worst thing is we're not informed ... If we had at least any clue what's going on.

@Marrekk Exactly. The lack of communication on an obviously popular idea all of sudden is concerning. The fact that the only communication they've been able to deliver is vague and places the blame on Apple is really disappointing. They need to either swallow their pride and implement, or be honest with this not being a priority.

Why can I not upvote this idea anymore? It's a shame, I've been a Spotify subscriber for 7 years now but it's shocking that this is what will end up making me cancel my subscription.

Are you signed in? It is a while since I voted but I vaguely recall having

After chatting with customer service a few months  ago I was informed that Spotify had no plans to update their app to include native homepod support. They didn’t seem too concerned about a loss of subscribers due to this issue.  I immediately switched to Pan dora and  Haven’t looked back. It’s basically indistinguishable from Spotify for my needs. You can also get three months free premium code from Groupon. Adios Spotify... Pan dora gets my premium family subscription money from here on out.

It’s a shame that Spotify didn’t do anything yet. I’m sure there not much work to do here. Apple for once made a an effort and Spotify just decides that they don’t **bleep** about it. That’s sad... I’m more and more thinking about switching to Apple Music which is getting better year after year...

I'm curious what Apple brings in WWDC this year into Apple Music. If they manage to revamp music recommendation and do something about continuity - hopefully, something similar to Spotify Connect... c'mon the whole ecosystem working on continuity, and the music app is not ... then I'll be considering a switch to AM (again lol).

But If I just didn't switch to a crypto com card that has 100% cashback on Spotify... damn.
