[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

I am a spotify premium member since years but since I own a homepod mini I am thinking about changing to Apple Music because spotify is not native supported. Please don‘t let that happen!

What the f*** is wrong with you guys and not integrating this? You’re able to, don’t act like you can’t and get over the narcissism you have with your services and Apple. With out them and Napster you would be nothing.

I thought I would repost my original thoughts to remind us all that, despite what Spotify is saying, the ball is clearly in their court to get this done.

Hi, I know I am late to this party but I am a little confused. If you read all the way through the following Apple Support link you will discover that HomePod can be instructed to change its default music app to a "supported" music app. Further down the same link you will see that Apple specifically names Spotify "(Spotify, for example)" as a supported music app.

https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/homepod/apd414437fc9/homepod

Mind you, if you follow these carefully written instructions you will eventually get to:-

2.  In the music service app go to settings, then add the music service to your HomePod.

....which unfortunately doesn't appear in the Spotify settings.

Confused.

Being a happy Spotify user since the very beginning of this company, I’m considering as well shifting to Apple Music due to the lack of connectivity throughout Spotify Connect. Spotify Connect, as opposed to using Airplay, means better sound quality, saving my phone’s battery and overall a better user experience.

Yeah I made the jump to Apple Music once I realised Spotify doesn’t support Apple Silicon, either. It’s literally the only app I have problems with (crashes whenever the machine sleeps, lid closes etc.) which is crazy given it’s a year later.

It’s not made clear whether this is a business or technical decision, but a combination of the lack of fixes and total lack of reasonable response from support on the matter leads me to understand a total contempt towards Apple users from Spotify.

Honestly, I’ve been a die-hard Spotify user for over a decade; I held off from Apple Music but after giving it a go and moving across my playlists it’s pretty good. First-class support for Apple TV, iOS, Apple Watch and HomePod is great. Plus the recent addition of Hi-Fi listening is nice.

It’s kinda sad Spotify hasn’t figured out native HomePod support yet, let alone airplay 2. Both been out for a long time now.

Brilliant. Spot on. Or should I say Spotify on.

i’ve been using Spotify family for years.  Moving to HomePods for speakers means that I’m having to switch to Apple Music for full integration. I’ve been watching this for a while, waiting for Spotify to respond but hearing nothing.

Come on spotify, I don't want to change to apple music, please don't force me to
