[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

It’s been a long wait and I may just switch to Apple Music, been a Spotify user for 6 years but I want to actually use my Homepod’s functionality

fugazied

I am considering cancelling spotify and moving to Apple Music because of this.

How many customers are you losing?

Was waiting since June for HomePod support to jump on Spotify but it seems like it will not happen.

That is really pathetic and childish that Spotify was chasing Apple, making all this publicity with Time to Play Fair campaign and when opportunity was there - ignoring it.

super annoying!
I really dont want to support apple more than needed... but im gonna switch my family account to apple music if this isnt fixed soon.

Its all about convenience!

Somebody already bring this to the news!

With the wide amount of Homepod (mini) users it will pump up the Spotify stock if implemented...

otherwise im gonna be bearish

Another customer here who is reluctantly considering Apple Music just for this issue.

I got a HomePod for Christmas and I love its functionality and integration with the Apple environment. However up to now I have been a loyal Spotify subscriber - you guys just do Music better!

However the lack of HomePod support is becoming a dealbreaker, especially with the lack of notifications from Spotify on the issue. My kids would like one and will not be allowed a device in their rooms to use AirPlay so Apple Music seems like the only option for us at the moment.

Please can we get an update on the timeline?

I just noticed a new section in the settings panel, called Voice Assistants and Apps, previously it was only Apps. There, it appears an option to link Spotify to Alexa, which is not necessary because it can be (and it had been since the beginning) done in the Alexa app. But music services on HomePod cannot be added through the Home App, it has to be done from

the iOS app of that service. Could this section be an indicator of Spotify working on this and releasing it somewhat soon? This section is useless only for Alexa but it is necessary if the service wants to be added to the HomePod

That is really interesting about the Settings. Jolly well spotted. Maybe they are indeed about to make a move. I have found it extraordinary how indifferent the hifi mags and the media have been to all this.

So I can add it to Alexa but not Apple... and Apple are now offering Apple One, which bundles music, news, backup etc, which makes it far more compelling.

Spotify please sort it out, or like others I’ll just move to where is makes sense.

As I said, as Spotify has been added to Alexa in the Alexa app since the beginning, this section of voice assistants (it wasn’t there a month ago) is useless for Alexa, but would be necessary for adding Spotify to the homepod. So the addition of this section could mean Spotify working on it.
