[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

Lol dude,

You need to take a chill pill. There is no obligation from Spotify to have a community website 😄

This thread is not about an idea or a feature that rose out of this community website.
Read the thread. Understand what it is about. Then you´ll understand the fury of the most users here.

You're right joe_12345. In case anybody (Edwardb) missed it, you can read my comment here to understand that Apple appears to not only support this Spotify integration in Homepod, but in fact uses Spotify as an example service and encourages users to try this on their HomePod with example commands.

So either Apple or Spotify is being dishonest, but either way the paying customers are being **bleep** and Spotify is not responding on this topic with literally thousands of engagements.

Edwardb

I understand the whole frustration,

but the issue is on Apples side. They are misleading you. Where Spotify has not announced any official support...

unless I have missed something again?

How is the issue on Apple's side (other than using the wording on their
help website) it's clear that they (finally) opened up access to music
services to use the home pod.  It's been about for a while now and was
announced even longer.  You can already use iHeart Radio and I believe
Pandora so... Spotify obviously doesn't care enough to make it happen.
They could but they aren't.

Will consider moving to Apple music if this is not addressed by Spotify. Spotify is obviously the superior service in my mind, but I have a number of HomePod devices and there is no reason why Spotify shouldn’t allow this integration.

Spotify connect is Spotify’s technology.
Airplay is apples technology

the fact that Apple mentions Spotify with Siri in their HomePod help is very odd.

hey Siri works perfectly on iOS I don’t think there is an emergency for Spotify to integrate into the HomePod.
im pretty sure Spotify gets a $$ kick back with Spotify connect from speaker makers and won’t with Apple’s technology.

i think it’s just a matter of time but if you think in terms of product priority.

  1. HomePod works with Airplay 2 and works with Spotify
  2. Spotify works with Hey Siri on iOS

that’s already some options. It’s not like you can’t use Spotify at all on your HomePod.

Guys,

Do not buy any product available with the vague promise of future software updates adding features, that is not good. I'd suggest anyone who bought a HomePod hoping to use Spotify return the devicr if still within the return window and wait for a resolution o get a different product in the meantime.

this is for the last comment of Edwardb. Spotify does NOT work over AirPlay 2, it streams over AirPlay 1 because Spotify hasnt implemented the APIs that apple released in mid 2018 for implementing airplay 2. if an app does not implement those, it will stream over airplay 1. This fact shows us that Spotify does not care about it's costumers because 2 years and 8 months later still hasnt implemented that.

@Edwardb that's true that hey Siri works with iOS but if you own homepod and you say hey Siri then homepod activate as "main Siri" and in that case, you can't use the "Hey, Siri ..." command.

HomePod works with AirPlay right but Spotify uses AirPlay 1 (if I'm not wrong) and on mac, it doesn't support airplay at all. (you can just route all your mac audio to homepod but in that case, everything is playing on homepod). and the same thing with AirPlay on iPhone. Yes, you can stream through airplay but as long as you want to open some video or something then it's again on the homepod...
