App crashing on Google Pixel

We’re receiving reports where the app causes the device to crash. The issue seems to be affecting Google Pixel devices only.

Some users also mention that it takes a really long time to load the app. When hitting play on a song, it flickers between the lock screen and black before powering off.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your rapports - this should now be fixed! Make sure to restart the app, should you still experience issues.

Cheers 🙂

So just updated to Android 14 and whenever I try to use Spotify it my home screen just flickers and I can't get to the main screen. Uninstalled 3x, delete cookies etc ..still no dice. wth

Spotify starting reboot-loop when I press play on Spotify app. Fixed by installing earlier version: 8.9.50.552.

Device: Pixel 7a

Software: Android 14

App Version: 8.9.52.552

As a note, if you have adb and run `adb shell am force-stop com.spotify.music` while SystemUI is crash looping, it stops it immediately.

Also, if that screen comes up after the device reboots you to ask you to factory reset, I would advise to NOT! It's likely some safety fallback by Android that thinks your device's system data is corrupted if the SystemUI crashes too many times in quick succession. This probably is not the case here since we are all hitting this issue recently. Best to let Android/Spotify fix the problem without needlessly wiping our data.

Having this problem; as soon as I play a song on Spotify it sends my phone into a boot loop. Pixel 8, 6 months old. Did a factory reset and immediately had the same issue as soon as I went into Spotify, so this doesn't solve anything. Have currently uninstalled, waiting for Spotify to sort issue.

I'm having this problem on my Pixel 4 for more than 2 months and its still there, despite having updated the Spotify App (V 8.9.68.456 / 117967992) and Android to the newest version. Does the fix support older phones like the Pixel 4, and if no, will there be a fix in the future?

I'm still experiencing the same issue, but I noticed this tends to happen mainly when I try to connect my Spotify to play songs on an external device such as Amazon's Echo or when I join a Jam. I'm using a Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 5G with Xiaomi Hyper OS version 1.0.8.0 UNQMIXM. Already tried reinstalling, clearing cache, removed all battery optimization settings, disabled and enabled notifications. I had a Redmi Note 10 Pro and this never happened, bought the Note 13 5G two weeks ago and it started happening from day 1.

Hey all, this seems to be still an issue ( pixel 6 pro, android 14). specific issues and troubleshooting steps taken are below.

Issues:

  • app not starting or will not load playlists and will stay on black loading screen
  • long delay for changing or pausing songs ( 30sec to a minute )
  • not moving to next song or pausing song with no input
  • failure to load home screen

Troubleshooting:

  • reinstalled app
  • cleared cache
  • cleared and redownloaded app data
  • updated android to current version
  • mobile service speed checked
  • wifi speed checked
  • cycled VPN ( issues still present in both connected and disconnected states)

hope this helps
