Low volume when casting Spotify

Hello

I had been using spotify with several google home devices for a few months with no problem.

It started about 1 month ago for no reasons: I have a very low volume when casting spotify on my devices:

Harman Kardon Citation 500

Google home mini

It means when I use google assistant or any other app (tunein for radio, bluetooth on the speaker..) the volume is perfectly fine and loud. When I Switch to Spotify I have to double the volume level at least to get the same output...!

Harman Kardon support couldn't help me at all so I hope someone can give me a solution ?

I've try unplugging the speakers, factory reset... didn't work

Thank you !

PS: i'm not a native english speaker so I hope I was clear enough

Hey folks,

We just wanted to let you know that the right folks are looking into this.

We're not able to provide an exact timeline for a fix, but we'd recommend always keeping your Spotify app up to date to ensure you're on the latest version.

Thanks again!

Something I hadn't noticed or thought about before - it's just when casting
to speakers. I cast to my Chromecast devices without any issue with volume
(but I think the Chromecast volume defaults to being set to 100% anyways).

I'm staggered to read some of the Spotify responses here which seem to indicate they still don't actually understand the fault which is being widely reported. As many have said, the version and/or settings of the user's Spotify app are irrelevant as the problem occurs with no involvement from the app. The issue is clearly device agnostic but specific to using Spotify with the Google Cast protocol. The lack of evidence that the two companies understand this and are trying to resolve is massively frustrating, but particularly so with Spotify as I'm paying for it.

Here's some further examples of the issue to add to the pile:

I've been using some Sony Srs-Zr5 speakers for a couple of years. They support both Google Cast and Spotify Connect. For the majority of the time I've had them, the volume disparity issue has been occurring. There were periods when it was fine, but they were short lived. I got some additional units of the same speakers a few months ago and the issue persists on those also - too quiet via Google Cast, fine via Spotify Connect. The issue has persisted through changes in ISP and WiFi hardware.

I just now received and set up two new Google Nest Audio speakers. When asking it to play a local radio station, the volume is fine. When asking it to play from Spotify, surprise surprise! Too quiet. Now I need to decide if should return them and continue using my old speakers with Spotify Connect, or cancel my Spotify family subscription after several years and keep the new speakers.

Spotify, can you give me a reason to stay?

@Omnivoracity just go to Deezer, it is so much better, the sound quality and volume stability is fantastic

Well I've finally had to cancel my spotify subscription and moved over to youtube music, I'm was forever having to turn the volume up for one song then turn it back down for another because of this volume issue now and due to the little to no help or feed back from spotify it is completely unusable for me now, it's such a shame I really enjoyed using spotify and think the problem could fixed if they just get the right people looking into it, and for those of you hoping that spotify will fix this volume issue soon don't hold your breath it has been going on for a few years now and I honestly don't think there even looking into this problem but good luck to you's, I hope it gets fixed one day but that's it for me goodbye spotify!!!

Hi, I just canceled my Spotify subscription too and also moved to Google YouTube Music. I’m so happy I have the normal volume back. I will test this for a month… sorry Spotify you have a month to find a solution, otherwise it’s Google YouTube Music forever.

It's not an issue with the devices and the app being updated. It's a problem directly between the Google homes and Spotify.

Elena,

Thank you for the post to let us know it’s been looked at but the final comment about keeping your Spotify app up-to-date is irrelevant to the situation. It’s not a problem with the Spotify app it’s a problem when you directly ask Google home to play Spotify that has been linked your Google account.  The app is not involved at all.

Exactly! Well from what I've read this has been going on since 2019 or earlier. How many customers has Spotify lost because of this and do they actually **bleep**. I've just started the three-month trial on Spotify if it doesn't improve by the time that is over I'm just going to go to YouTube music, that will be another customer lost. Considering how competitive the streaming market has become in the last year and a half it should be spotify's number one priority to sort this problem out, especially if they're losing customers and customers are telling them they're leaving because of this problem. And to any Spotify staff reading this or wanting to reply the usual generic update your app or report to us with your user settings, it's your jobs on the line if it isn't sorted. If Spotify keeps on losing money you lot will be the first to go. No apologies for the frank nature of my post as myself and obviously all the other Spotify users on here have had enough.
